Weaves that tear out our hair, bleaching creams that destroy our skin, fake nails that destroy the surface of our real nails, food that stays undigested in our intestines creating pockets of fat on our bodies. Women are slowly learning that beauty first comes from within, it is not something you put on. There is a science to beautifying oneself, and like most healthy things, it is natural and not artificial. Chemist Matina Lutfi-Higgins discusses her company The Science of Beauty, and her hair and skin products that enhance ones beauty by using the natural substances that are healthy for hair and skin. She looks at the politics of the beauty industry and how social pressure keeps dark skinned women spending large amounts of money to alter themselves to conform to a racially biased society.
