Out of wedlock pregnancies, bankruptcies, prison records - these and other things that may have occurred in ones past can be a source of shame if made public. Fear of public condemnation has often caused people to go to extremes to hide what they fear will cause them to be scorned and rejected Families used to send pregnant unwed girls away until the baby was born so that no one in the neighborhood knew. Extreme debt was considered a sign of low moral character and only recently has the stigma of declaring bankruptcy been somewhat removed.  A prison record can define a person for life, and some employers will dismiss a good employee for a record of incarceration that occurred way in the past and is no longer a reflection of the person's current character. How do we overcome past shame and fears of public condemnation in order to move forward in life with confidence?
