Have cell phone cameras given people more power?

Everybody has a cell phone, and cell phones have become mini computers, able to do photos, videos and audio recordings. Has that given more power to the average person to determine what is news? How will that affect the newspaper industry? Recently all the photographers at the Sun-Times were removed from their jobs, destined to be replaced by newswire services and cell phone cameras. Will other jobs be next?
