You don't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been, and at 7pm you should be tuned in to the BCS Experience with Byron C. Saunders to get your daily dose of history, arts, culture and politics in review and discussion. Tune in this week to talk politics locally, state-wide, and nationally. NYC is facing major political changes with the upcoming elections of a new mayor, city council members, and state-wide legislative races as a result of reaching term limits. In addition to local issues, the country and the state are facing federally-forced sequester budget cuts that are sure to affect many. We'll be joined by Mercedes Narcisse, who is running for New York City Council in District 46, as well as her campaign manager, Michael Roberts. Mercedes is a new kind of Democrat – a 21st century new-age political leader whose philosophy is based on pragmatism and the realities of the present political and socio-economic climate. She is pro-business and believes that in order to empower the community there is a need to wean residents off government programs and services and help them become independent, productive and proactive citizens. Mercedes is not afraid to take unpopular decisions that are at odds with the Democratic Party and its ideology – as long as they advance and empower her community and its residents. Tune in to the new Underground Railroad, next stop is your neighborhood.
