To discuss African politics, economies and business
Date / Time: 8/30/2008 10:15 PM UTC
The Zambian political landscape took another twist with the passing of the Third Republican President Dr. Levy Mwanawasa. His passing came after almost 6 weeks of being admitted in a Paris hospital following a stroke he suffered at the African Union Summit in Cairo, Egypt. I personally commended him on his position regarding the Zambian constitution, his strict adherence to government fiscal and central bank monetary policies. I never met him, but I know a good number of people that worked with him and knew him well and spoke highly of him. He was also my father in law's lawyer in the 1980's. They continued to be friends and if you must know, he also passed away only a few weeks earlier. He suffered a stroke and died instantly when he was working on one of the projects that made him leave Canada after almost 15 years. The President was still in a Paris hospital at the time. I had plans to meet both men this October, now it has all changed. I have always been motivated to find answers to persistent questions and problems. The push will now be greater and I hope this show "The African Side" will echo across and reach the intended audience. I will try to do my part in selling my country and my region the best way I can, I know we should be better than what we are now.
I hope to motivate and likewise to be motivated by people listening to the show. I want to let the Africans in the Diaspora; and these include Africans themselves and other peoples of African descent in both North America and the Caribbean to look at the Southern African region for investment opportunities.
Coming back to Zambia, I know we are in a transition right now, my faith is in the Zambian electorate to choose an able leader who will put Zambia first and continue on the path to economic growth. Contrary to the prophesies of the prophets of Doom, each time Zambia is faced with a challenge the Zambian people always rise to the occasion and move on peacefully. With this comes pride that allows me to move with my head high, letting everyone know that “I am a Zambian”.
Tiyende Pamodzi (Let’s move together)
The African Side returns on Saturday September 6th with the show about choosing the next President.
Thank you!
