I decided to close out the year reairing my favorite shows from 2009. This week will be about Gang Violence. With the growing number of fatalities and general violence stemmming from gangs, I thought it was crucial that we started to bring light to this issue. The age for gang recruitment is getting younger and younger and as parents, we need to be more knowledgeable about what our children can be getting into and/or faced to deal with. Also, as adults we are often the victim of gang violence as well so the more we know the more we can protect ourselves. So please join me and my special guests, Chief of the Kings County Gang Bureau - Ms. Deanna Rodriguez - and Sean "Dino" Johnson, an ex-gang member as we delve into his background and how and why dealing with gangs sent him down a distructive path in life. We will take a look at gang violence through the legal system and learn more about the alternative to incarceration program, Project Redirect, that was created to give our youth a second chance to follow the right path and make better choices in life. We will also see how a young man can pull himself together (while incarcerated), get his bachelor's degree, become a Director at a well known non-profit organization, and now mentors and speaks to youth against gang activity -- all these achievements within the last 6 years. So you won't want to miss his compelling story of tradegy and triumph. Parents, it is so important for you to educate yourself, so that you can educate your children.
