    Obama's "Left Turn"

$0I’m sure that, like me, many of you have watched with disgust, albeit amused disgust, as supposedly brilliant conservative commentators express their second thoughts over supporting a known radical left-wing extremist who never made any secret, not in his writings, his speeches or his voting record, of his decades-long desire to “remake” America, or should I say Amerika. There was David Brooks, the token “conservative” at the New York Times, sort of like Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the token “conservative” on ABC’s “The View.” Granted, Mr. Brooks is not a mentally-challenged faux blonde with barely more brains than a mannequin wearing Republican pearls, but you get the idea. In a March 2 column, he declared “Those of us who consider ourselves moderates — moderate-conservative, in my case — are forced to confront the reality that Barack Obama is not who we thought he was.” With that level of insight, how did this guy end up at the New York Times? Oh, wait … $0$0$0$0There was Christopher Buckley, son of one of the intellectual giants of modern American conservatives, William F. Buckley, who resigned from the magazine his dad founded after endorsing the empty suit former U.S. senator  (D-ACORN). He is also having second thoughts.$0$0$0$0Then there’s Stuart Taylor, who has discovered that Barack Hussein Obama’s numbers don’t add up, and that he may not be the “centrist” that he thought. He writes March 7’s National Journal:$0$0$0$0But with the nation already plunging deep into probably necessary debt to rescue the crippled financial system and stimulate the economy, Obama's proposals for many hundreds of billions in additional spending on universal health care, universal postsecondary education, a massive overhaul of the energy economy, and other liberal programs seem grandiose and unaffordable.$0$0With little in the way of offsetting savings likely to materialize, the Obama agenda would probably generate trillion-dollar deficits with no end in sight, or send middle-class taxes soaring to record levels, or both.$0$0All this from a man who told the nation last week that he doesn't "believe in bigger government" and who promised tax cuts for 95 percent of Americans.$0$0$0$0$0$0As usual, Mark Steyn nails it:$0$0$0$0As for Stuart Taylor, he still doesn't quite get it:$0$0The house is burning down. It's no time to be watering the grass.$0$0If only. The house is burning down. And Obama's soaking the neighboring buildings in Exxon-Mobil's finest. Fortunately for Mr Taylor's fit of the wobbles, the alternative to the Obama Fire Department is a GOP "dominated by such hard-right conservatives as Rush Limbaugh". Twenty-five million people listened to Rush last week. Millions of them have listened to him for 20 years. That makes them "hard-right" extremists.$0$0Whereas being one of a few thousand who listened to Jeremiah Wright every week for 20 years makes you a mainstream moderate.$0$0$0$0$0$0Well said, sir. Well said.$0
