A couple of days ago I had a conversation with a reader of my blog at teriobrien.com who mentioned having trouble listening to my show on blogtalkradio.com. No, it wasn’t Joe Biden, who apparently thinks you use a “number” to go to a webpage. Remember the ridicule heaped on Sen. John McCain for not knowing how to use a computer? He’s in his 70’s and Joey Hairplugs is only 60. So much for the ageist argument that says the older a person is, the less likely he or she is to stay on the cutting edge of technology. As for my friend’s difficulty listening to the show, she suspects it may be that her computer is old, and therefore not up to the task of streaming audio. She’s working on remedying that by getting a new Mac. When she does, she can catch up on the show by downloading it from iTunes. Remember that you can do the same by clicking on the blogtalkradio.com button on this page, or on my facebook page. Speaking of my facebook page, if you haven’t taken my race coward quiz, please go to my profile page on facebook and do so. It’s in the sidebar on the left side of the page. But I digress. I was speaking about that guy that no one messes with, according to man-god/president Obama, Joe Biden. He told us that paying taxes is patriotic, and looks like some Americans are going to get to show their patriotism big time. Just two days ago, we watched Pres. Obama speechifying, once again to the collective swoon of the slobbering media--”what a brilliant orator!” Yes, and so was Hitler. Demagogues need to be good speakers to try to put their con games across. Of course, as usual, there were very few specifics in his faux State of the Union, but there was this one promise: “In order to save our children from a future of debt, we will also end the tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of Americans. But let me perfectly clear, because I know youll hear the same old claims that rolling back these tax breaks means a massive tax increase on the American people: if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime. In fact, the recovery plan provides a tax cut thats right, a tax cut for 95% of working families.” Another Obamise. That didn’t take long. The Wall Street Journal reports today: “The tax increases would raise an estimated $318 billion over 10 years by reducing the value of such longstanding deductions as mortgage interest and charitable contributions for people in the highest tax brackets. Households paying income taxes at the 33% and 35% rates can currently claim deductions at those rates. Under the Obama proposal, they could deduct only 28% of the value of those payments. The changes would be phased in gradually over the next few years. For the 2009 tax year, the 33% tax bracket starts with couples with taxable earnings of $208,850, when adjusted for personal exemptions and various deductible expenses. A taxpayer in the top bracket paying $1,000 of mortgage interest, for example, would see a tax break worth $350 reduced to $280. During his presidential campaign, Mr. Obama promised not to raise taxes on families earning under $250,000 a year, and the administration said that this plan would roughly line up with that limit.” You see, it “roughly line[s] up with that [$250,000] limit.” What’s $42,000 between friends? Just remember that when $100,000 “roughly lines up,” because even a chimp with a calculator could figure out that the tax increase he proposes could never fund his profligate spending plans. Other items of note: (1)that Illinois’ former junior senator (D-ACORN), who as an attorney represented race bullies who intimidated lending institutions into giving mortgages to people who could never afford the homes they were buying, now wants to restrict the mortgage interest deduction for those who can (2) like all liberals, the affirmative action president isn’t a fan of private charity and (3) no one is talking about what BHO himself admitted (watch him by clicking on the “BHO admits he’s a Socialist” on the YouTube widget here on the page or on my YouTube channel) : that if the goal is cutting the deficit, the objective should be to increase revenues, which is accomplished by LOWERING taxes, not raising them. My reader and I discussed our fear and trepidation about the direction in which our country is headed. If we get Congress back in 2010, we may have a chance to get our country back. Still, every time America loses her head and has a wild fling with one of these power-hungry, smooth talking socialists, she wakes up with a serious hangover and an incurable social disease. FDR left us with Social Security. LBJ bequeathed the dual monstrosities, Medicare and Medicaid, whose crushing liabilities loom on the horizon like Godzilla ready to devour our children and grandchildren. I tremble when I think what plague Barack Hussein Obama will leave behind.
