A look at the events of our lives, from the daily mundane to the grand global stage from the perspective that the only way to make it better is to recognize our own role in facing the challenges.

Show Notes

Since we're getting more listeners, I decided to try to actually have a format. So, here goes. We will have a live chat running on all segments except The Constitution and You. I will not be running it myself, as I can't talk and type at the same time, but I have help for that! For call ins, for the first 90 minutes of the show, please feel free to call in, but we're going to keep calls to 3 minutes during that period, in a question and answer type format. But, since I like to talk too, the last 30 minutes is wide open for discussion. I hope you'll tune in and chime in if you get the chance!

Letter to Civil Servants who currently believe they are Gods

As promised, here's that letter I wrote.  You don't have to use mine, but please send them something.  They need to hear us ALL the time.  Please feel free to copy, post, link or send this to anyone you think might want to use it, or will just get something out of reading it.

Dear (Fill in Your Congressman or Senator's name here),

For many decades, the elected civil servants in our Federal government have been drifting further and further from fulfilling their oaths of office. You know, the one in which they swear to uphold, preserve and defend our Constitution. For many decades, the American people have gone about their business, only paying attention when the Federal government stepped far enough outside its boundaries to have an impact on their day to day lives. For many decades, the civil servants we have sent to Washington have grown complacent with the idea that they were somehow untouchable, somehow unaccountable, somehow entitled to the respect, trust and privilege we granted them with our vote. They have convinced themselves that whether they earn that respect, trust and privilege by fulfilling their responsibilities, or abused the faith placed in them by their constituents, we would be lulled into continuing them in their positions of power because once they reached Washington it would be beyond our power or our perception to do something about it.

This misguided delusion has never been more evident than in the last six months. Worse, the attitude has gone from a passive expectation of our continued silence to histrionic denunciations of our right to object when you step outside the boundaries. You have demanded respectful behavior, without having done anything to earn our respect, worse while you have openly shown your contempt for us, We The People, in other words, Your Boss. You have defamed and degraded the citizens of this country with crudities like “Tea Baggers”, derogatory names like Nazi, Mob, Astroturf, Extremist, and my personal favorite, Racist. And yet, when we ignore your insults, calculated to offend and thus distract us, and insist that you answer for your actions and your plans, the silence is deafening.

After promises from both sides of a “different atmosphere” in Washington, in every election in my lifetime, We The People, aka Your Boss, are still left with a bunch of children pointing fingers, seeing who can yell the loudest about who did what to whom. We hear grand rhetoric, cries of crisis, and unending excuses about every issue under and including the sun, all in an effort to distract us from the simple truth that few, if any, civil servants in our Federal Government are actually doing their jobs. You parade recession, Children's Health Care, Iraq, Afghanistan, No Child Left Behind, Medicare Prescription Coverage, TARP, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (an egregious misnomer) and your latest, Health Care Reform, or Health Insurance Reform, or Affordable Health Care Choices, in effort to keep our attention focused on the latest craze and away from the true problem. We are writing to inform you that your misdirections, misinformation, and outright lies have failed to achieve your goal.

We are no longer focused on the issue of the moment, but are redirecting our attention to the fundamental issue that the civil servants we have hired, and will soon be firing, do not have the authority to address any of these issues. Our Health Care is not your business. Bankruptcy bailouts and ending recessions is not your business. The Federal government was created for the sole and specific purposes to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity. You were elected to uphold, preserve and defend, as well as administer, those purposes. You have not only failed in that sacred duty, you are now actively working to:

    • Eliminate Justice (valuing empathy and diversity in Justices rather than understanding and impartiality under the law)

    • Destroy the domestic tranquility (recruiting Union members to intimidate and attack citizens, encouraging class warfare, requesting citizens to “inform” on one another)

    • Weaken the common defense (cuts to military and intelligence agencies, refusal to enforce our borders, incorporating known terrorists onto US soil, apologizing for US success on foreign soil)

    • Fracture the Union (placing the desires of large, poorly run, States above the well being and sovereignty of other members of the Union)

    • Degrade the public welfare (promotion of dependence on government, depriving people of their money to “redistribute” it to others who have not earned it, promoting class envy, dilution of the currency)

    • Destroy the blessings of liberty, not only for those of us old enough to vote, but for generations to come (promoting the idea that the government should be in charge of all aspects of our lives from if and what kind of car we drive, to what house we should have, what credit we should get, if and what type of health care treatment we can get, what we can eat, and how much we should exercise).

We will no longer be appeased by platitudes. We will no longer be persuaded by rhetoric. We will no longer be intimidated by oppressive behavior, or threats of violence from those who support you. President Obama fulfilled one promise, amidst the many he broke. He promised to bring unity. Well, he has accomplished that goal. The silent majority, the exceptional American, the normal citizens of this great nation are united in our goal of raising our voice, standing up, and stopping the amoral, authoritarian, and yes, unAmerican behavior of our elected officials. We are your boss, and we are coming to take you to task. As you gaze out on August 22 and see those who have time to attend the recess rallies taking place across the country, know that there are millions more of us who had other commitments. As you huddle in your offices in Washington DC while thousands of our feet pound the pavement up to the Capitol building on 9/12, know that there are millions more of us who could not make the trip. Those millions of us are making plans to get you voted out of office. You cry about our anger, we are not angry, we are outraged. You accuse us of violent intentions. We don't need violence, all we needed was to remember that it is our Creator given right to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and that you have no authority except that which we choose to give you. We have been reminded, and we promise you, the deluded servants of the people, that we will not soon forget our rights, or your violation of them. We are here, and we are coming to a voting booth near you.

    Sincerely,

    A Proud American Citizen
