Tera Jean

A look at the events of our lives, from the daily mundane to the grand global stage from the perspective that the only way to make it better is to recognize our own role in facing the challenges.

Show Notes

Since we're getting more listeners, I decided to try to actually have a format. So, here goes. We will have a live chat running on all segments except The Constitution and You. I will not be running it myself, as I can't talk and type at the same time, but I have help for that! For call ins, for the first 90 minutes of the show, please feel free to call in, but we're going to keep calls to 3 minutes during that period, in a question and answer type format. But, since I like to talk too, the last 30 minutes is wide open for discussion. I hope you'll tune in and chime in if you get the chance!

Websites for Citizens of These United State

Okay, so the federal government can be a bewildering maze of information. We are bombarded daily with news from TV, newspapers, magazines, the internet, and radio, and all of it is filtered through someone who consciously or subconsciously has an agenda. This includes my radio show, so I'm not pointing fingers. But the art of objective journalism seems to have fallen by the wayside, if in fact it ever really existed. So, we listen to those we agree with, or we listen to those that scream loudest, or we listen to what is repeated most often, and more often than not are left less informed, more bewildered and more frustrated than we would have been if we'd just turned off the news and read a good book instead.

And yet, we can't just complacently ignore what our government does or we wind up with things like the TARP program, the 2008 Bail Outs, and the upcoming American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. That's just a small fraction of the economic havoc that has been and will be wreaked upon our nation in the span of less than a year. We have scandals aplenty when public servants take advantage of the public trust, and no one notices, because no one is paying attention. We have nominees appointed to high level positions with conflicts of interest, shady histories, and outright incompetence in their supposed fields of expertise. This is not just this administration, or this Congress. This is not just Democrats or Republicans. This is government inn general. Tremendous power, left unchecked, will lead to tremendous disasters. We the people of these United States have a responsibility to our ancestors, ourselves, and our children to know what the people we elect are doing, and stop them when they go astray. In an effort to help you, my fellow citizens, to become as informed as possible, I'd like to give you a few websites.

    The US Senate
    http://www.senate.gov

    The US Congress
    http://www.house.gov

    The US Supreme Court
    http://www.supremecourtus.gov

    The White House
    http://www.whitehouse.gov

    THOMAS - Library of Congress
    http://thomas.loc.gov/

Each of these websites has information on the day to day business of our branches of government, including summaries or legislation, committee hearings and reports, court decisions and arguments, Executive Orders and Memorandum, and much, much more. I encourage each and every one of you, when you hear something in the news that catches your attention, take the time to check it out, get the facts, and then make your voices heard with your representatives. It is their job to represent your interest, but if you do not make your interest known, they will inevitably serve themselves instead of you.
