PAGE 2 GUEST EXPERT: Michael Johnston President and CEO - HJC Michael Johnston is the president and founder of Hewitt and Johnston Consultants (HJC). He is also co-founder of the global legacy company, The Global Legacy Giving Group and is Senior Fundraising Partner with the Dutch based company, Nassau and the French based company, Optimus. He has been a fundraiser for 23 years and has worked with hundreds of organizations in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Mike is an expert in direct response fundraising innovation – especially in the use of new technologies like the Internet. He has written, or edited, or contributed to a number of books on these topics: 1. The Fund Raiser's Guide to the Internet (author) 2. The Nonprofit Guide to the Internet (author) 3. Direct Response Fundraising: Mastering New Trends for Results (as editor and contributor) 4. Nonprofit Internet Strategies: Best Practices for Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Success (as co-editor and contributor) 5. People to People Fundraising – New Media and Traditional Fundraising (as contributor) Mike was an instrumental, founding board member of the Washington based Ephilanthropy Foundation, and was its first Education Committee chair. He was a founding Board Chairman of Globelot, the first Internet lottery created in partnership with CARE International, Human Rights Watch, World Wildlife Fund, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
