I Found Someone With the Best Job in the World...And That Poses Another Career Market Question

    Hello folks,

TCE finally had a vacation...and loved it....my first ever cruise (10/7 - 10/13)....but I can't tell you everything because..."what happens on the Victory, stays on the Victory."  But I must share my joy when on this ship I meet the most wonderful staff, had the best service...and was treated like the DIVA I WANT TO BE!   but that does lead me to a career question about workers on board the cruise industry...but before I pose that...let me give my Pushs-ups.

First,  Push Up and "WhooHoos" to Malcolm Burns, the Cruise Director on the Carnival Victory  who has the best job on the planet.  Talk about getting PAID to party!  Actually I should type PARTY.  For six days, brother Malcolm had too much fun with the thousands of guests who were on that vessel.  Talk about loving your Monday mornings...he was the center of gravity on that ship and set the tone for the entire vessel....Carnivale you BETTER be paying brother Malcolm...big time!

Of course, Malcome impressed me on a number of different levels but primarily in the following ways (this is not to offend, but I hope you rec this as a measure of being proud and giving kudos, where kudos are do).

But I must say this, first I was impressed that the cruise director was a man of color...from the Bronx NY!    Malcom's signature line is "Whoo Hoo" mine is "Push Up" but in any event.  He made me proud and I have talked about him ever since.

But Malcom is not the only one, there were several employees from all over the world (and I got to meet, talk to, learn about their culture, what it's like to work 5,000 miles away from home, etc).  My cabin Steward IGeddee from Bali, is a proud father, who loves his son...and is working hard for his family.  Plus he pampered us...like no one else ever had (yes, he got a nice TCE tip).

My waitstaff for table 316, Pacific dining room John (India) and his crew, were on point, knew our dining preferences but it went beyond that.  It was proud workmanship...and it doesn't get in better than that.  Would american born workers on the ,service side, offer the same level of workmanship and pride?  That is the question I pose.

Malcolm, lead by example, but he is in a senior/staff position...the cabin stewards, food servers, childcare workers...who most were from other nations...earned every penny (and I mean penny) they got.

    Question:

Would a USA born service employee deliver that level of service with the same smile and pride....what say you?
