TALKING SMOOTH JAZZ IS ONE YEAR OLD

June 8, 2009, was Talking Smooth Jazz's one year anniversary.  When Talking Smooth Jazz was created, my initial plan was to just talk about my passion for the genre, why Brian Culbertson is my favorite artist and how much I absolutely love the music.   I never even dared to think that I could actually talk to an artist.  But then on June 29, 2008, I did my first tribute show to Luther Vandross and I wanted Terry Steele to be my guest because he wrote Here and Now.  So I went to Terry's website, got the contact information but was too scared to call to ask for an interview.  This was all new to me.  I didn't know if I had to pay him or not.  In fact, when I did get up the courage to call, I said to the person that I did not have any money to pay Terry.  He kind of laugh and said he figured as much (who knew?).  Terry Steele was the very first artist I interviewed.  Thank you Terry!

After Terry was the best dressed man in smooth jazz, Nick Colionne.  I call this my gift interview because it was set up for me by Matthew Odom, the program director of BaySmoothJazz.com.  Nick was performing here in Las Vegas and Mathew contacted Carol Ray and told her about me.  Carol contacted me and scheduled the interview before the Nick's performance.  But with sound checks and preparation for the concert, it didn't happen but I did get to meet Nick afterwards.  A few days later, he emailed me apologizing for not being able to do the interview and scheduled another date.  That interview took place July 13, 2008, on BlogTalkRadio.  He had just landed that morning in Chicago from performing the night before and I'm sure he was tired but he was so gracious and called in.  Carol call in too and we had a fun interview.

Since then, I have interviewed Brian Culbertson (twice - thanks Brian!), Boney James, George Duke, Will Downing, Ken Navarro, Chieli Minucci, Nils, Eric Darius, Joyce Cooling, Darryl Williams (bassist for Euge Groove), Douye, Eldredge Jackson, Marcus Johnson, Mike Phillips and more!  What a year.

I want to thank the following:

ALL of the artists!  Thank you soooooooo much for the opportunity to speak with you.

The listeners!  Thank you for your support and listening to the live and archived shows.  It is truly appreciated.

To my co-host Mike Reynolds.  I have told you how much I appreciate having you as a co-host.  Thank you for all of your support, motivation, and inspiration.  You set them up, I knock them down, and we are making it happen.

To the CSB School of Broadcasting and David Chase.  Talking Smooth Jazz would probably not be on the air without them.  Thank you!

To my radio instructor, Kevin Benford.  I can't even begin to tell you how much your support means to me.  You had all of our backs in school.  Love you!

To Ken G and Gary Selover, my original co-hosts.  What fun we had in the beginning.  You guys will always be special to me.

My family/friends, thank you for your support.

I absolutely love hosting Talking Smooth Jazz.  It is truly a dream come true for me and I could not have done it without any of you!

    Jazz Queen
