There is confusion in rap right now. The story centers around Nas and a mysterious character named Your Old Droog. Droog is currently faceless, but not voiceless as his self-titled EP is drawing strong comparisons to Nas. So strong that many are suggesting Droog is Nas’ alter ego*.
For the record, eskay says he’s met Your Old Droog before. eskay’s a pretty believable guy. One of the guys at Complex claims he’s met guy before, too, and that it’s not God’s Son. Others have chimed in as well. The catch is no one can really recall anything distinctive about the guy but, as a writer who meets a lot of rappers, I can attest these rappers do all tend to blend together and become faces in the crowd when you meet them at an event or whatever and they hit you with the “please listen to my demo” deal.

Well, the mystery of Your Old Droog has come to a close.
Or has it?
The mysterious MC, who many have insisted is a personification of an intricate wool-over-your-eyes plot by legendary lyricist Nas, has seemingly emerged as his own man. Two items have been released, just ahead of the Brooklyn upstart's "debut" performance, September 3 at Webster Hall.
The videos, one a well-produced in-studio session alongside long-time NYC producer DJ Skizz, and another, a casual freestyle caught in a darkened club, both make for a compelling argument that Your Old Droog is NOT Nas.
But there are those who are STILL not convinced.
Our hosts Manny Faces and Steve Ortiz are on opposite sides of the fence. Listen to them argue it out, and CALL IN with your thoughts.
Also joining us, one of our favorite aritsts, Likwuid! She'll be calling in to talk about her long-awaited, 2 Hungry Bros-produced EP, "Likwuidity: In Depth," featuring folks like DJ Evil Dee, Dylan Dili and Meredith Hansen of the Metropolitan opera(!).
As usual, we'll review and preview some great NY-area hip hop events, and drop some new releases you should know about.
We saw it, but we still kinda don't believe it.
Your Old Droog made his first major public appearance at New York's Webster Hall, clearly proving himself to not be Nas, which conspiracy theorists had suspected for months.
The similar-sounding Brooklynite held it down with a technically sound performance, banters and stage presence. The crowd, even the ones who were disappointed, were impressed at Droog's abilities, both lyrically and performance-wise. In a room full of major media, Your Old Droog showed and proved.
So, we guess the conspiracy theories can rest.
Or can they?
We'll talk about that, and we'll also be speaking with Mtume Gant, who is working toward putting together a short fim project entited "Spit: An homage to the unsung artists of New York City." A frequent performer and recording artist, Gant is looking to create this short film to "unpack the experience that so many artists fall victim to" in their quest for recognition.
We'll spend a little time previewing other shows and of course, take your live calls!

Join Vaccine Rights Attorney Alan Phillips, J.D. (co-host Dr. Sherri Tenpenny is still on sabbatical) as he discusses the end of vaccine religious exemptions in Australia, and how powerful American freedom of religion is, at least for now; an article claiming that the Head of the FBI's anthrax investigation (post 9/11) was a sham; how best to get a legal argument to your state representative, when the legal argument explains why a vaccine bill seeking to restrict non-medical exemptions is unconstitutional, to discourage the representative from supporting the bill; why some state constitutions may require the state to offer a religious exemption even though the federal Constitution probably does not; whether or not language in some state constitutions about religious liberty includes philosophical beliefs; and more! There is a turning point that recharges us when we have spent too much time in the dark. Usually it is when we are letting go of the old and making way for the new. Tune in this week as Lisa Jones and I discuss new beginnings and returning. We often forget that this stage of the work starts with rest. We are so programmed to hustle and DO that we move too fast. By returning to clarity and truth we gain new momentum. Any cycle of change that moves us from the dark to the light demands that we recharge ourselves. Few realize that this time in the dark is a form of hibernation, allowing our energy to renew itself. We are strengthened by rest. We’ve experienced this insight when recuperating after an illness or during the slow return of trust after a period of estrangement. Tonight’s show speaks to moments of new beginnings.
We don't need no stinking format! Just another way THEY are trying to tell ME and YOU how to act and what to do! You feel the same, I know it, and you know it, tell everone that you are not going to be that patsy anymore, you are Vern and Vern knows how to be noticed for ideas and common sense. Why, once was people could say what was on their mind without someone sayin' they couldn't. Well we are ending that today and continuing every day to be heard and counted as the Verns we are! Salute the Moms, Apple Pie and Verns of this America! Be a Vern and speak your mind! Call and tell me what gripes Vern. Vern is male/ female, youngish, oldish, comes in all shapes, colors and varied backgrounds. Vern is cool, square, forward, backward, sometimes smart, sometimes not, and can be seen in the mirror! I'm Vern, you're Vern, we're all Vern! The Un-Vernished Trueth!
in Self Help
In today's show we start with a brief chat about the current energy intensities and how we're being affected, with a dollop of astrologiocal info to add clarity in relation to what we're experiencing individually & collectively. We follow on from last week's show & discuss how we move forward when life appears to being weighing down on us and how to become more aware of how to use our ABUNDANCE POWER, and what it means. What is abundance? Why can't all manifest abundance? Blockages & timing. If you have any questions please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and we can address your question on our show.
