Polly grew up with six siblings in Mobile, Alabama, but was only 8 years old when her father died of lung cancer. Soon two neighborhood boys began to molest her, friends of her older twin brothers. A couple of years later she was assaulted by another neighbor and later by her older brother. She was able to break away from the abuse at the age of twelve, but was by then deep in the darkness of isolation. Polly is now a mother and grandmother, and has lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years and has become a devoted advocate for adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.
She began her organization, This One Step, to help older survivors of Child Sexual Abuse deal with the trauma of being part of what she has named, "The Unknown Generation" A generation of survivors who had nowhere to go for support. In her late teens she began writing as a coping mechanism to deal with the PTSD. Her three books, "Cider Blocks and Oven Racks", "Billy Wayne's Christmas Train" and "The Unknown Generation" will be available in early 2016. She has written many southern short stories which have been published in different publications. She is now hosting her own blogtalk radio show Monday through Friday beginning at 6:00am.
Join me LIVE, tonight, at 9:00 p.m. to find out the scoop on the MDYR Executive Board.

What are the consequences when public servants, employed by the taxpayers, violate the public's trust? The city of Chicago erupted in protest over the Thanksgiving weekend after the release of the dashcam video graphically showing the killing of 17 year old Laquan McDonald by police officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014. For an entire year, this video has been withheld, and with its court ordered release came a series of questions as to who was involved in the coverup. Young Laquan, a ward of the State, should have received more care, support, and intervention, it seems, rather than to be shot to death for carrying a knife with which he allegedly was puncturing car tires. Illinois State Representative Mary Flowers joins us today to discuss the many levels of official misconduct that need to be addressed by elected officials as well as the voting public, in holding those accountable who violate the public trust. Can new laws and new regulations protect citizens from police abuse? Should the entire police force be scrapped and all forced to re-apply? Should mandatory psychological exams be instituted before an officer is hired? How do we weed out those who have already racked up complaints for excessive force, before they kill someone else

“The fact that you have Latinos and a black among the leading candidates is just coincidence,” said J.C. Watts, a former Oklahoma congressman who became one of the nation’s most prominent African American Republicans. “It doesn’t speak to what’s beneath the surface. We’re still not talking about the concerns of that young black couple starting a business or that young Hispanic family,” he said, adding: “Where are our solutions to deal with incarceration reform, unemployment, the trouble blacks and Hispanics have getting home mortgages? Republicans who ignore Ferguson and Baltimore and Black Lives Matter are refusing to hear the depths of what people are experiencing.” WP
