Join us for this special Christmas episode of In The Country featuring Country artists Riki Knox, Mike Biggar & RyLee Madison. Each of them has a Christmas song to share.
A true performer, Riki has been described by her audiences as charismatic and highly entertaining. Whether she’s getting people up on their feet dancing, or engaging them with the strength of her original songs, Riki has a knack for drawing in the crowd and creating an unforgettable musical experience. She’s a girl who values and appreciates the ‘little things in life’. That grounded mindset has seen her go from playing church and charity events, to sharing the big stage with artists like Dallas Smith, Marc Jordan, Carole Pope, Jack DeKeyzer & Justin Hines to name a few.
Mike is an award-winning Country-Rock artist from Canada’s East Coast. His infectious melodies are well-spiced with lyrics of life, love, and loss. Powerful, punchy anthems with generous helpings of clever hooks and smart writing sit opposite intimate, tender ballads. Soaring vocals, honest lyrics and keenly focused performance energy concoct a compelling musical potion that makes instant fans of those who listen.
Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, RyLee's music may have carried her to Nashville, but her hometown always plays an important role. RyLee says, "Nashville is my second home. I've created family here with my husband and friends but my first home will always be Nova Scotia." RyLee has traveled to Europe, performing at Festival Country Rendez-Vous in France, Whelan's Pub in Dublin, Ireland, Half Moon in Cork, Ireland, and Róisín Dubh Pub in Galway, Ireland and at the famed Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
Josey Milner is part small town teen, part road-worthy country starlet, and at only 17 years old, she turned heads and changed hearts with her debut US single, “Not Pretty Enough.” The song thrust Josey into the country music spotlight, launching her anti-bullying campaign with Angels and Doves, earning her a 2013 Independent Country Music Award nomination for Promising Young Artist, a Top 10 Hottest New Artist designation, and a Number One single on the world’s first independent country music chart, Indie World. Now, 18 and a recent Magna Cum Laude high school graduate, Josey has taken her initial successes to greater heights with “Cowgirls.”
“Cowgirls” was recorded at Awestruck Studios with her “Not Pretty Enough” production team of Micah Burdick and Matthew Russo (Hall and Oates.) Mastering engineer, Larry Gann (John Rich, Elton John) also played drums on the track, with Jimmy Mattingly (Dolly Parton, Reba, Garth) on fiddle and Smith Curry (Jason Aldean, Randy Travis) on pedal steel. The single was released to country radio in November 2013, and it reached #1 on the New Music Weekly country charts and Top 75 on Music Row! “Cowgirls” is a boot-kicking, foot stomping dance anthem that has country radio fans

Each song, like a separate chapter, unfolds a story of continual hope and courage, moving each listener through her lyrical exposure of emotion.
Saskatchewan's Codie Prevost is a Canadian country music sensation. When he was 14, he picked up his first guitar, and since then his career hasn’t stopped accelerating. He began his journey on the path to fame by playing guitar, and writing songs simply to entertain his friends and family. Little did the world know that those family concerts would spark the pilot light on one of the biggest engines in Canadian country music. Codie has been nominated and won dozens of awards for his art, from the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards to the Canadian Country Music Awards. In 2015, he begins an Australian tour.
Alberta's Koreen Perry performed at Canadian Music Week in Toronto for two shows in 2013, and frequently performs live at cafes, private functions. bars and festivals around Alberta, including regular appearances at the Edmonton Airport. She continues to focus on her singing, song writing and recording. Koreen is part of the Blue Pie Family of Artists. Matt Austin grew up in the Detroit downriver area with a guitar-playing father but he didn’t gain interest in playing until his uncle from Texas moved to Michigan. He was inspired first by the sound of the blues guitar greats Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Matt later fell in love with this new age country genre that is growing by leaps and bounds.
In 2013 along with releasing his new EP Matt Austin, was also direct support for Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert, Uncle Kracker, Aaron Lewis, Josh Gracin, Charlie Worsham, Chase Rice and Jerrod Niemann.
MA has also performed in 2013 to thousands at many of the great country music festivals in Michigan such as 99.5 WYCD’s downtown hoedown and the Faster Horses series at Michigan international speedway.
Doug Briney began like so many other musicians, singing in church. His first solo was when he was two years old. He continued singing throughout high school and then graduated in 1988 from Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College as a Vocal Music Major. During his college days, Doug had the opportunity to sing with a gospel quartet and travel all over the western half of the USA. He also had the unique opportunity to sing with the San Diego Opera Chorus. After graduating Doug went on and has spent the next 23 years leading worship in churches and pastoring.
Doug's new project "Super Country Cowboy" was released November 5, 2013. With a strong title track that is really a reflection of who Doug is as a person and cowboy this track blends traditional with an edge ready for radio. "I Get To" is a track Doug is extremely proud of and it has been a motto for his family for the past 23 years. Doug chose to cover a Brook's and Dunn classic "Believe" and brings a very raw emotion to the song. This project is truly a snapshot of Doug's life in every song.
