So, No Biff this week. He had to attend a wedding. Life stuff. It's cool. Geeks have lives, afterall!
Danimator's chum and returning guest, Turo will be playing the roll of Biff ... kinda-sorta. You'll see. Anyhow, we want to talk about animation and one of our favorite directors of all time, Hayao Miyazaki! Plus, with the latest news about Studio Ghibli closing, it makes you wonder ... what's up for the future of animation?
Dan WAS gonna title this week's show "Turo's Dreams and Punching Bulls in the Face", because we've mentioned Turo's fun-filled and curious dreams in his first show with us (see Geek Pile #17 - Turo & Dan: Adventures in Puberty), so we thought it might be fun to share some of those dreams. We'll also talk about how playing an arcade game nearly got him killed in real-time-high-def!
We might talk about Yaphet Koto and Bill Paxton as well as crazy, classic anime ... but we might not.
Just listen in, we have fun.
As Danimator's father once said: "They broke the mold when they made Arturo" ... truer words have rarely been uttered. It was also once said that he has an inner-thought process that is shrouded in mystery. Alas, it may not be for us to understand, but it sure is a blast to be around!
Turo currently is a freelance digital compositor and animator, but his vast, encyclopedia-like knowledge of actor names and the rolls they played perhaps outweighs his special effects prowess.
We'll have some fun around our virtual-campfire of geeky-camaraderie. That's what it's all about, folks.
Dan Kuramoto knows that his group, Hiroshima, was blessed the day that Kimo Cornwell arrived. Having had success since the 70's, new heart and fire set the band apart that day - via Kimo's fingers. And creative mind.
Born in Honolulu, Kimo heard the call of music early - and became one of the island's most treasured talents. He played with everybody and made all of them sound better. Leaving Hawaii for the siren call of Los Angeles, he was quickly scooped up by Cheryl Lynn - then, a series of other noteworthy artists. Ronnie Laws, John Klemmer, Al Jarreau, Frankie Beverly and Maze - they all wanted the power of this keyboardist - who just happened to also have a kind personality.
In the mid-80's, Kimo felt led to make a choice - and he chose to stay with Hiroshima. Since then, the partnership with he and Dan has magnified - and the teamwork is clearly visible if you have seen this enigmatic ensemble perform. June on koto and Kimo on the keys is truly a sight to behold. ART, ladies and gentlemen!
Hiroshima's new CD, "J-Town Beat", has much history behind the title and the inspiration for its music. Kimo will talk about that when he visits the show on 12/10. Wait until you hear some of these tracks - without being a holiday project, you will nonetheless truly feel the season come alive. There is groove, grit and great memories here. No act conveys a sense of positivity like Hiroshima - and Kimo is (forgive me!) KEY to that message. LOL!
Join us for a wonderfully joyful - and maybe emotional show. You will hear, too, songs that echo the anointed life of Nelson Mandela. His spirit will always be with us. You'll feel that, I promise!
Fun at one p.m. Eastern - Kimo stops by at three (that's Noon Pacific).
