Slick tracks, spin outs, and rain delays, made qualifying a real challenge at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Brazil. The final race of the Formula 1 season was off to a wet start for the teams. Although there were no real surprises at the end of the day, anything can happen on race day. The starting grid line-up will be, F1 World Champion, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, on pole position. Nico Rosberg with Mercedes and Fernando Alonzo with Ferrari rounded out the top three. Not to be ignored was retiring Red Bull driver Mark Webber and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton coming in fourth and fifth, respectively. Hometown favorite and Brazilian Felipe Massa with Ferrari came in ninth place, to his own personal disappointment. Starting grid position will mean nothing on race day if, there's a down pour of rain. It's a well-settled fact that, rain, speed, and a slick track, are real game changers.

Formula 1 Qualifying at the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit
Saturday November 2, 2013
Qualifying day was met with ups, downs, controversy and surprise.
After the race in Abu Dhabi there are only two races left in the Formula 1 season. The USGP in Austin Texas and the Brazil race.
The 2013 season is the swan song for the very likeable Mark Webber, who just made pole position by beating the time of teammate and red bull champion, Sebastian Vettel.
On the downside was fan favorite and 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton, who qualified fourth but was unable to finish Q3 because his car broke-down. The Mercedes driver is in a great position to take the number two or three spot on points, and help his team land in second place, in the constructors.
Abu Dhabi was not without controversy when the "iceman," Kimi Raikkonen, with Lotus F1 held a press conference to clear up rumors of trouble between him and team heads.
The usually shy Raikkonen said the issues were about money. He went on to say he had not been paid all year and he might not race on Sunday unless, something was worked out. This is Kimi’s last season with Lotus F1 because he made a deal with the Ferrari team and will drive for them next season.
The big surprise during qualifying was Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who did not make it into the top ten. Alonso will be in 11th place on the starting grid, which has put his team chances of second place, in jeopardy.

Coming off of a controversial lock-up on the track during qualifying, that slowed down teammate Lewis Hamilton’s faster flying lap, Nico Rosberg won the Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco today. Rosberg won on the same track that lead his father Keke Rosberg to victory, years earlier.
Thanks to the skillful driving of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the Mercedes AMG team is 161 points ahead of their closest rival Red Bull. German driver Nico Rosberg has become a netter driver since Lewis Hamilton started sharing his data with him, something his former team-mate and 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher did not, do. They may be friendly competitors on the track but they are the epitome of a good team. Rosberg and Hamilton’s efforts to score points for the team have been very successful all season because points, translate into revenue.
A welcomed surprise was Marussia driver Jules Bianchi who got the first ever points for the team this season, placing them 9th in the Constructors. They gained entry into Formula One in 2009 and have been a hard working team struggling to gain Constructor points.

Race day may have started with Williams-Martini drivers Felipe Massa sitting on pole, and his teammate Valtteri Bottas second, but it was Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg who took it to the finish line and won the Austrian Grand Prix..
Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg won his third Grand Prix of the season today, at the Formula One Grand Prix, in Austria. Rosberg is ahead in points for the 2014 driver championship. His teammate Lewis Hamilton has four wins under his belt and was his closest rival on the track, coming in second. This win gives Rosberg a 29 point lead over teammate Hamilton who is expected to win his home race in a couple of weeks during the British Grand Prix, at Silverstone.
Williams-Martini driver Valtteri Bottas delivered some valuable points for his team, crossing the finish line in third place. This was the first time Bottas had been on the podium, and will most likely, will not be his last. For the last 11-years, the Austrian Grand Prix was off the calendar until Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz owner of Red Bull Energy drink and the Red Bull team, made a deal to bring the race back to the beautiful, newly renovated, Red Bull Ring.
Next race is at Silverstone, for The British Grand Prix. Stay tuned to Xiro Xone F1 Sports.
