Joe Mullins is a southwestern Ohio native who has been a recognizable banjo player, vocalist, and radio broadcaster for 30 years. Mullins toured and recorded as a founding member of the band The Traditional Grass until 1995, when he purchased WBZI Radio in Xenia, Ohio. Mullins recorded and performed with the band Longview, earning Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year awards from the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) in the late 1990’s. He was honored by winning an Instrumental Recording of the Year award in 2001 from the IBMA for his banjo work on Rebel Records’ Knee Deep In Bluegrass. Mullins was also one of many artists in 2006 sharing Album of the Year honors for Celebration of Life, on SkaggsFamily Records. Mullins owns an Ohio network of radio stations, adding three other stations over the past decade. Most weekdays he is on the air from 1 until 3PM featuring Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music on all four stations and webcasting at www.myclassiccountry.com. He was a 2010 SPBGMA nominee for Broadcaster and Promoter of the Year and WBZI was nominated for Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year. He is SPBGMA’s 2011 SPBGMA Broadcaster of the Year.
FOSTER PARENTS SPEAK OUT ABOUT ALLEGATIONS
We typically only hear about the wrongdoings of foster parents, but are they all bad? Are they motivated by money, or do they really care about children? How much does the system rely on them when it comes to determining the fate of a child?
Are allegations made against them a tool of revenge or a distraction from the truth? What are the professional and personal consequences of allegations?
We’ll talk about this and more when host Sherrie Clark interviews veteran foster parents Dee Wilson and Burl and Betty Traylor about the foster care system through their eyes. Former caseworker Dr. Xenia Merrick shares her insight.

THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM – IS THE RUMOR GAME PART OF THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS?
Join host Sherrie Clark as she talks with guests Dr. Xenia Merrick, Rev. Margie Ussery, and Darryl Clark. They'll take on some controversial issues within the foster care system.
They'll analyze several questions, such as whether decision makers are given all of the information regarding a case. Is information being divulged to them accurately so that they can make the most educated and appropriate decisions in the lives of foster children?
Do workers know the laws or do they merely play the Rumor Game? And has the system improved over the last couple of decades? What are some proven solutions?
Darryl Clark will share the story that led to the writing of the award-winning book Small Voices Silenced. Former caseworker Dr. Merrick will provide insight from her experiences. Rev. Ussery will provide her perspective as a former guardian ad litem.
