Faithful: Can You Love the One You're With -- Write Stuff -- 12/16/2014

    in Radio

There are a lot of reasons why people get divorced but among them are the hot issues of infidelity. When a spouse finds out that their husband or wife is cheating on them, it rips apart the fabric of the relationship. Sometimes the tear is so wide and so deep, that it cannot be repaired. Instead, the only option for some is to divorce.

Is being faithful a thing of the past? We've heard stories of couples who remained faithful through thick and thin, up and down. For some, the idea of having an outside fling would never cross their minds. What has changed in our society that being faithful seems to be a figment of the imagination?

Among Christians there is infidelity and we're supposed to be the poster children of love, marriage, and fidelity. Yet, it's nothing to hear of the pastor with so-and-so while this person is doing that with someone else. When we make the vow, 'forsaking all others', are we merely doing lip service because it's tradition or do we really mean it?

Can we love the one we're with? Can we truly be faithful?

On this year's last episode of the Write Stuff I'll be talking about this issue with Minister Yvette Tatum as we discuss my newest release, The Other Man. You can call in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV radio mobile app today. Any way you, can join us.

THE WRITERS LOUNGE PRESENTS: THOMAS RIDDELL

    in Writing

Join hosts Dawn Whidden and Robin Eduardo as they welcome author Thomas Riddell to The Writers Lounge. Sit back and relax as Tom discusses what it's like to be a writer and he will also talk to us about his book: PIECES OF MY PATH

PIECES OF MY PATH- A MEMOIR

A TRIUMPHANT JOURNEY THROUGH THE "DARK DAYS" OF DEPRESSION...

Most mornings I would seek out the minor comforts of a lobby couch and I would lounge there; and as the crashing waves of gloom rolled deeply over me, I’d gaze out the window and watch the cars go by on the busy highway. People were contentedly on their way to work, oblivious to the agonizing despair and depression that were destroying people in the brown brick buildings that they were driving past.

The surrealistic detachment that I felt watching those morning commuters brought me to an even greater level of despair and hopelessness. I was so far removed from the hustle and bustle of that highway, and of a life that I once knew, that I might as well have been watching it all from the moon.

It was all so foreign to me to even imagine a life where I could once again get in a car and drive to work. I may have wanted that kind of a life back terribly, but I never envisioned ever having it again; not from the couch where I was laying.

  • Indie Books Show #66 (Mary Barr)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Mary Barr joins me this week to talk about her books.  We'll discuss her novellas, novels & juvenile fiction titles.
    From her novella The Publisher:
Each day with trust and good faith we send our beloved children off to school. We assume they arrive safely, enjoy time with their friends and learn their lessons. We think we know where they are and who they’re with. But life can change in a heartbeat, so can circumstances, places and people and, as a result we never remain the same. Change is often good, sometimes bad, but always constant. The Publisher takes you into the lives of the Smelt family. Joe, Suzanne and their two children, six year old Libby and thirteen year old Connor.
It is a normal school day just like any other, until Joe – the publisher – begins reading a manuscripts. In the manuscript he learns that his children are not at school. They have been kidnapped and are being held hostage until the ransom is paid. Each detail of what he must do is precisely laid out as another page of the manuscript unfolds. Suzanne has done someone wrong and, if she can right the situation her children will go free, if not, they will die. And so, they sit and wait for the knock on the door and the next installment of the manuscript that holds within its pages their children’s fate.

Walking the Woods and the Water: In Patrick Leigh Fermor's footsteps from the Hook of Holland to the Golden Horn:

In 1933, the eighteen-year-old Patrick Leigh Fermor set out in a pair of hobnailed boots to chance and charm his way across Europe, "like a tramp, a pilgrim, or a wandering scholar." The books he later wrote about this walk, A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and the posthumous The Broken Road are a half-remembered, half-reimagined journey through cultures now extinct, landscapes irrevocably altered by the traumas of the twentieth century.

Aged eighteen, Nick Hunt read A Time of Gifts and dreamed of following in Fermor's footsteps. In 2011 he began his own "great trudge"—on foot all the way to Istanbul. He walked across eight countries, following two major rivers and crossing three mountain ranges. With only Fermor's books to guide him, he trekked some 2,500 miles through Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

His aim? To have an old-fashioned adventure. To slow down and linger in a world where we pass by so much, so fast. To discover for himself what remained of hospitality, kindness to strangers, freedom, wildness, adventure, the mysterious, the unknown, the deeper currents of myth and story that still flow beneath Europe's surface.
