    Ellen Wittlinger on WriteSpa TEEN!

    Ellen Wittlinger is the author of over 13 novels for teenagers. In 2000 HARD LOVE was a Printz Honor book and also won the Lambda Literary Award. Many of her books have been ALA Best Books and are on state book lists. BLIND FAITH won the Keystone State Book Award. Her book is PARROTFISH about a female-to-male transgender teenager. In July 2008 a companion novel to HARD LOVE was published called LOVE & LIES: Marisol's Story. THIS MEANS WAR is her most recent novel.

    WriteSpa TEEN - Amy Timberlake

    Amy Timberlake's most recent book, One Came Home, was awarded a Newbery Honor by the American Library Association. It's also been nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. It has been called "a True Grit for the middle school set" by Bookpage, "a valentine to sisterhood and a bird that no longer exists" by The Washington Post, and "a rare gem of a novel" by The Christian Science Monitor.   


    She's also the author of That Girl Lucy Moon (Hyperion Books for Children). That Girl Lucy Moon was chosen as a Book Sense Pick, a NYPL’s “100 Titles for Reading & Sharing,” a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of 2007, a 2007 Amelia Bloomer Book, and the winner of the Friends of American Writers Literary Award.

    Catherine Linka is an author, and a children’s and young adult book buyer for an independent bookstore in Southern California. She studied international politics at Georgetown University before getting a masters in business at the University of North Carolina. After years in sales, marketing and advertising, she reimagined her life and pursued a masters in writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is a member of SCBWI, and a recurring speaker at SCBWI-Central Cal Writer’s Day. She blogs about writing at ThroughtheTollbooth.com. Catherine is married and lives with her husband in the San Gabriel foothills. A GIRL NAMED FEARLESS is her debut novel.

    Jane Yolen on WriteSpa TEEN!

    Jane Yolen, often called "the Hans Christian Andersen of America," is the author of over 350 published books, including OWL MOON, THE DEVIL'S ARITHMETIC, and HOW DO DINOSAURS SAY GOODNIGHT. The books range from rhymed picture books and baby board books, through middle grade fiction, poetry collections, nonfiction, and up to novels and story collections for young adults and adults. Her books and stories have won two Nebulas, a Caldecott, the Golden Kite Award, and hundreds of others. She has been named both a World Fantasy Grand Master,    a Grand Master of sf/fantasy poetry by SFPA, the Science Fiction Poetry Assn. Six colleges and universities have given her honorary doctorates and her Skylark Award--given by NESFA, the New England Science Fiction Assocation, set her good coat on fire.

    WriteSpa TEEN - Corinne Demas

    Corinne Demas is the author of two collections of short stories, three novels, a memoir, a collection of poetry, a play, and numerous books for children. She is Professor of English at Mount Holyoke College and a fiction editor of the Massachusetts Review.    


    She grew up in New York City, in Stuyvesant Town, the subject of her memoir, Eleven Stories High, Growing Up in Stuyvesant Town, 1948-1968. She attended Hunter College High School, graduated from Tufts University, and completed a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She lived in Pittsburgh for a number of years, teaching at the University of Pittsburgh and at Chatham College. Her awards include two National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowships and an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship.

    Kendell Shaffer, author of the YA novel, Kalifornia Blu, interviews Leslie Nipkow whose essay collection, How to Kiss Like a Movie Star, will be published by Greenpoint Press in late spring 2014. Leslie has had essays published in the New York Times, Salon.com, O Magazine, FreshYarn.com, the New York Post, and more. She has one Emmy award, five Emmy nominations, two WGA awards and five WGA nominations for her scriptwriting work on As the World Turns and One Life to Live. When she is not writing, she trains in the fighting art of muay thai. She and Kendell will talk about teens and writing.
