MAAFA- ARE WE CONFUSING UNITY WITH CO-DEPENDENCY ?

    in Culture

    How Do Co-dependent People Behave?

Co-dependents have low self-esteem and look for anything outside of themselves to make them feel better. They find it hard to “be themselves.” Some try to feel better through alcohol, drugs or nicotine - and become addicted. Others may develop compulsive behaviors like workaholism, gambling, or indiscriminate sexual activity.

They have good intentions. They try to take care of a person who is experiencing difficulty, but the caretaking becomes compulsive and defeating. Co-dependents often take on a martyr’s role and become “benefactors” to an individual in need. A wife may cover for her alcoholic husband; a mother may make excuses for a truant child; or a father may “pull some strings” to keep his child from suffering the consequences of delinquent behavior.

The problem is that these repeated rescue attempts allow the needy individual to continue on a destructive course and to become even more dependent on the unhealthy caretaking of the “benefactor.” As this reliance increases, the co-dependent develops a sense of reward and satisfaction from “being needed.” When the caretaking becomes compulsive, the co-dependent feels choiceless and helpless in the relationship, but is unable to break away from the cycle of behavior that causes it. Co-dependents view themselves as victims and are attracted to that same weakness in the love and friendship relationships./

Close-Up Talk Radio spotlights Charlie Birch of Being Human Ally, Inc.

    in Motivation

Boulder, CO – We’re taught from day one that hard work is the key to success – that rest is the opposite of productivity and play is the opposite of responsibility – so it’s no wonder that workaholism has quietly become one of the biggest problems facing our culture today.

Unlike drugs and alcohol, our culture reinforces our addiction to work even at the expense of our physical health. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 76.2 million Americans suffer from some form of chronic pain. It isn’t hard to draw the connection.

Charlie Birch is the founder of Being Human Ally, Inc., a holistic coaching practice specializing in pain management and workaholic recovery. Through a one-on-one coaching program, which draws from Charlie's own experience recovering from both chronic pain and workaholism, Being Human Ally helps clients restore a sense of balance in their lives and build a new sustainable lifestyle.

“What else could I be better qualified to help people with than the two things that were the hardest for me to overcome?” says Charlie. “I can relate to my clients and I can offer really clear advice. It worked for me and I’m not so different that it should only work for me.”

    Mindful Awareness: Emotional sobriety

    in Self Help

    The pillars of Mindful Awareness:
Non-judging -becoming the observer develops empathy and compassion for self and others Patience - training the mind to refrain from auto-pilot reactiveness by  choosing to  respond with loving kindness Beginners mind - training the mind to become present Trust- ourselves so that we can trust the unfolding process Non-striving- no action is an an action of self-mastery, choosing instead to observe  Acceptance - bridges the conscious and unconscious states of being in the present Letting go As a rule, most defects of character involve some imbalance in the expression of and the experience of our most basic human needs. For example, sexuality and ambition are problematic when  our experiences of those drives are imbalanced or codependent.
If we are addicted to intensity that is expressed  either  acting out sexually  or are driven by  unbridled ambition to the point of workaholism, these expressions have become hardwired habits and are defects we can address. Our sixth step prayers need not be "Make me sexually anorexic " or "I will live an austere life as Nun or a Monk "
Rather, we might pray, "I surrender. May I personify  healthy expression of my sexuality" or "Channel ambition into enhancing my private life as well as my work life."
We are behaving authentically when our beliefs, actions, goals, and results are aligned with who we are—our self. It is a congruence between our actions and our strengths, values and goals.
We become authentic when the path we choose through life is congruent with who we are. It is a congruence between who we are and what we do. An authentic choice is a decision congruent with doing your best.

Keeping a Miracle Mindset & Free Angel Readings

    in Spirituality

Do you ever wonder how to keep your thoughts positive while you are going through something really, really challenging? It isn't always easy and it takes a "Miracle Mindset" to shift out of worry, fear, anxiety, etc. and to shift back into love, trust, and faith. Miracles are possible when we trust beyond all measure, and when we have faith in something we cannot see or sense.
How does one cultivate a "Miracle Mindset"? Tune in and I will share some tricks of the trade. I am an expert in learning to see the light in the dark, to trust when there is no obvious reason to believe in yourself or the Universe, and I know what it is like to feel like you have no other option but to give up.
When you learn to trust the Universe and have faith in miracles, you are able to trust yourself especially when it comes to stepping away from compulsive and/or addictive behaviors, such as overeating, undereating, substance use, codependency, workaholism, TV addiction, etc. You deserve compassion, love, and understanding, and to have faith in Miracles because they are possible when you believe in them.
I will talk callers halfway through the show. The Angels would love to help you allow more miracles into your life!
