Snack: The 4th meal of the day! Recipes and more with Toby Amidor

    in Food

How many meals did you eat yesterday? Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner used to be considered the only times we sat down and ate. Now we not only don’t sit down and eat at each meal, we have added an afternoon snack meal. Some even snack during mid-morning. Why is this? Our lifestyles have changed. Consequently, so have our eating habits. Unfortunately for some this means eating more than we need resulting in excess pounds. And, too often nutrient packed foods get lost in the grab and go snack shuffle. Toby Amidor RD to the rescue! Not only is she founder of Toby Amidor Nutrition, she is a food writer and has authored cookbooks, her latest being The Greek Yogurt Kitchen. As a busy working mom, Toby has had to figure out how to balance and spread daily wholesome food needs into four meals. She has sorted out what we should serve for on-the-run or sit-down snacks in order to satiate while nourishing hungry children and adults. You are in for a treat – delicious snack solutions such as Raspberry Oat Bars, Mama’s Berry Smoothie, plus Kale, White Bean or Hummus Dips with carrot sticks. On a cold afternoon why not serve and enjoy a cup of warm Lentil or Black Bean Soup topped with a dollop of Greek Yogurt!

AOT: Timely, Appropriate Psychiatric Community Care Plus Subsistence

    in Politics Progressive

Discuss the need for timely, appropriate treatment for serious mental illness (SMI) through AOT programs. Your input is invited at (347)857-3293. Most families experiencing mental health crisis agree that their mentally disabled loved ones would be able to avoid psychotic episodes if the patients were faithful to their mental health treatment program and took their meds. However, many Americans with SMI are untreated, some because they have no health insurance that covers mental disfunctions, and others because patients refuse to accept treatment and take prescribed meds.

Assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) programs mandate continued psychiatric treatment and provide subsistence assistance (food and housing) for Americans with SMI. AOT programs reduce homelessness, arrests and incarceration, hospitalization, and deaths caused by the lack of treatment. That means less crime and safer communities, lower prison costs, and restoration to wholesome living for many sick people.

We congratulate the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), which endorsed unanimously the “authorization, implementation, appropriate funding, and consistent use of assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) laws to ensure treatment in the least restrictive setting possible for individuals whose illness prevents them from otherwise accessing such care voluntarily.” The IACP represents more than 20,000 members in more than 100 countries (see more at the Treatment Advocacy Center website). Nobody knows the needs of people with SMI like their psychiatrists, their families and police. With few exceptions, they agree that AOT would make ours a safer and more humane society. Please call and give your opinions on air.

We Remember the Saints, Our Saints

    in Religion

The Christian Church Festival of ALL SAINTS is celebrated on November 1st.  It is a time for all Christians to remember the Saints.  This remembering is not only about the Saints with a capital S but also our own personal saints with a small s.

This is a good and wholesome thing for all people to do.  Firstly, it pauses us as we rush through our life.  During this pause we are encouraged to consider all the blessings that we receive because of the contributions of others.

Secondly, it is an opportunity for us to remember our loved ones who have died.  This personal remembering enriches us as we recall and cherish the memories of our family and friends who have died in the Lord.

Thirdly, it makes it possible for us to reflect upon our own lives.  We are allowed to consider the many blessings daily granted to us.   It affords us an opportunity to offer our prayers and praise to God for his covenant with us.

Finally, in our broadcast, we will look at the additional benefits that paying attention to our saints and all Saints gives to us.  It is a three dimensional blessing.

The Earth is Reserved for Fire

    in Current Events

. 2 Peter 3:1-18:1 Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2 I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. 3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8
