Thalia Anguiano, a junior at Drake University who asked the question of the former Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton was asked to address how she has benefitted from her white privilege at the Iowa Black and Brown Forum Monday night during Fusion’s two-hour presidential forum. Clinton, along with other Democratic presidential candidates Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders, were pressed on issues deemed important to minority communities including healthcare, criminal justice reform, immigration, education and economic development. “Can you tell us what white privilege means to you and can you give me an example from your life or career when you think you have benefitted from it?” “I think it is hard when you are swimming in the ocean to know exactly what is happening around you so much as it is when you’re standing on the shore perhaps watching," Clinton responded.
Americas Whites must end lies about self and lies about others to lift up self, if America is to not become like many countries with only 2 classes of citizens. Rich and poor. Americans realize the need for unity, but pockets of Whites want life like when it was easier for them to ignore all but self and loved ones. Then when a White wanted to be kind, they could support a Black or not and based on their wealth the choice was theirs and no one elses. White privilege got a White person a job, a raise, a home, a home loan, a GI bill for education, medical assistance, even a seat on a totally packed bus. White privilege wasn't in our vocabulary back then. If a Black even thought they should have something not within reach, it was said, "you think you are White". this meant you're Black and you don't get that privilege. Today whites still get opportunities non-Whites don't, but in today's society, many Whites think they do better because Blacks are actually inferior mentally. Whites will tell you they never got help from anyone indicating Blacks never tried to do anything constructive.
"White Privilege seems to be a big issue on the campus of the University of Missouri. How is privilege connected to the W-word?"
This installment of The Forbidden Fruit will discuss the origin of white privilege and how it has adversely affected all races in America, including the "white race". Some people want to deny the existence of white privilege. White privilege comes in many forms. White Privilege can be as invisable and deadly as Carbon Monoxide, and as obvious and destructive as an atomic bomb. The conception of White Privilege is deeply rooted in the old strategy of Divide & Conquer. The enemy you were taught to hate, may not be the enemy at all.

This installment of The Forbidden Fruit will look at the subtle affect of white privilege on Black America. With the current social unrest moving throughout the country, the opinions are racially divided. Some people are quick to address the riots as an isolated incidents and not the by-product of a much bigger and more complex problem. How can you ask Black America to forget the past, suck it up and move on? The past is the past, so leave it there..right? Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Subtle White Privilege can be more dangerous than in your face racism. We all need to get along, but at the same time, we have to understand our differences. It's politically correct to say that you don't see color, but is that healthy? Let's address this issue head-on and not just let it fester. There has been a lot of hurt that has been swept under the rug. That rug is getting awfully bumpy.
What white america is asking black america to do, is like an angry mob breaking into your house, rapping the women, beating the men, stealing all the valuables in the house, then setting it on fire, and then a week later showing up and asking you to just don't ever mention it again and suck it up and move on. Yes, you can suck it up and move on, but some very important steps are missing. The attacker never owned up to it, nor did he apologize, nor did he offer to make it right economically. He just expected you to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, when you didn't have any boots to start with. I think we need this talk here on The Fruit.

Greetings, folks! Let's make this a real attempt at brevity! Welcome to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review podcast, airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. Check out the latest musings of your favorite podcast superhero team as they decipher the most current event laden and topical "codes": our impressions of rap artist, Macklemore's new single entitled, "White Privilege" as well as his commentary on race relations in the U.S.; Dburt connects the dots between an interesting anecdote that was revealed during famed comedian/director, Keenen Ivory Wayans' geneological search on Finding Your Roots and the media's most recent Oscars debate; on the blerd front, filmmaker, Kevin Smith intimated that DC may be channeling more from Marvel than one would think relating to the possible comingling of their TV and film IPs.
Democratic presidential hopeful, Bernie Sanders seemingly dodges the slavery reparations question; Harvard reserachers embark on a "moonshot challenge" thanks to 28 Million in funding to attempt to map an A.I. brain like the neural connectors of a human cerebrum; with news from Sundance regarding Don Cheadle's Miles Davis biopic and actor Nate Parker's Birth of a Nation film, does the cure for the Oscar dilemma lie with Black folks producing films beyond hackneyed rom-coms?; why exactly did B.o.B. rapper debate the astrophyscist, Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson over the "world being flat?" Hopefully, comedienne, Sherri Shephard was listening in as well. And again, speaking of Sundance, we weigh in on a new Blerd centric film entitled, Sleight. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
