Lets Talk with Rachel & Bennet, Guest Wendy Oleston

    in Pop Culture

Huffington Post columnist Rachel Thompson and Critic/writer/columnist for Night Owl Magazine and Affaire De Couer Bennet Pomerantz discuss media topics with guests.

Author Wendy Oleston has had a very interesting life! Now married to Ryan and living in Wisconsin with their two children, Brett and Caroline, she is a very proud recovering alcoholic who owes everything to her faith in God. Wendy is very creative and uses her own experiences in life to write her books so they are laced with her own struggles and victories. She writes Christian fiction but in a real-world sense, including real-life issues while maintaining a Christian backbone. Yes, her writing includes some language and sex, but that is the reality of the world. Her goal is to entertain while infusing the love of Christ. She desires to get her readers thinking, laughing, crying and thinking some more! She has a knack for creating likeable characters with a real-feel which tend to stay in the reader's mind long after they have finished her books. She hopes to continue writing books which will insight a delightful exclamation of "I've never read anything like that before!"

    Episode 186-Wendy Terrien

    in Writing

Wendy Terrien's debut novel The Rampart Guards (February 29, 2016) is the first in her intriguing urban fantasy series. Inspired by an episode of Bones that suspected a killer to be a fabled chupacabra, Wendy was fascinated and dove into research about cryptozoology - the study of animals that may or may not exist, or cryptids.  Pouring over stories, videos and photographs of creatures others had seen all over the world, Wendy developed her own story to share with middle grade, young adult and grown-up readers.  http://www.wendyterrien.com/

Over and Back: #RussellMania Playoff Battles - Celtics vs. Nationals

    in Basketball

#RussellMania: The Over and Back Classic NBA podcast is devoting the next few weeks to Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell.

We continue in our deep dive into the life and career of Bill Russell by discussing the 1950s and 1960s playoff battles between the Boston Celtics and Syracuse Nationals (now the Philadelphia 76ers). We talk about how Dolph Schayes was a bridge between the old game and the new, how the Nationals-Celtics rivalry was fierce even before Russell joined the team, how Russell’s defense affected the Nats’ play (especially Johnny “Red” Kerr), and how close the Nationals came to beating the Celtics in 1959. We also share stories of how Celtics broadcaster Johnny Most nearly lost his dentures during a game, the disappearing 7-foot-3 Swede Halbrook, players who both played in the MLB and NBA, plus the contributions of Paul Seymour, Hal Greer, Larry Costello, George Yardley, Ed Conlin, Al Bianchi, Earl Lloyd, and, most importantly, pay tribute to the one-minute career of Forest “Frosty” Able.

SPLITOPIA:  DISPATCHES FROM TODAY’S GOOD DIVORCE AND HOW TO PART WELL  by Wendy Paris

While divorce has improved dramatically for many people over the past 40 years, our ideas and attitudes about it remain stuck in the past.  A belief that divorce must be a disaster for all can create just that outcome—and lead to the escalating fighting, scarred children and six-figure court battles we still see.

It’s time to update our understanding of divorce and use the tools, cooperative legal processes and support available today to get through this tough time with compassion, self-compassion and love. We need to harness our knowledge and the resources available to better protect our children, and respect our families—in all their myriad forms.  Splitopia can help.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wendy Paris is a journalist and personal essayist whose work on marriage, relationships and divorce has appeared in The New York Times, Psychology Today, The New York Observer, and is the co-author of the perennial-selling wedding-planning guide, Words for the Wedding (Perigee 2011; original edition 2001), and the author of a humorous book of dating advice, Happily Ever After: The Fairy Tale Formula for Lasting Love (HarperCollins, 2002).
