Words from the Well: Conversation for Single Parents with Wendy L. Harvey
SPECIAL HOLIDAY EDITION: Whether you love the Holiday Season or dread it, it tends to be filled with lots of extra 'hustle and bustle', spending time with family, gift giving (Which includes, who wants what? And can I really afford this?) and it's a time that's notorious for more people experiencing depression. So how do you make it through this 'wonderful time of the year' with your sanity in tact? I've invited my friend, Melanie Foote-Davis, who is a Life Coach, Women's Advocate and 'Self-Love' promoter, to join us and share her perspective. In addition to her current profession, she was the former Salon Manager and Hair Designer for Fabulous Finishes Salon and Day Spa and she comes from a very large family and has lots of experience and tips for navigating the holidays with lots of love and without breaking the bank. Take a moment to listen (and laugh) with me and Melanie and prepare for your mind and spirit to be renewed!
In her final show until March 1, 2015 (she is taking a sabbatical to work on a writing project), The Authentic Woman Host, Shannon Fisher, will interview Historian, Renee Davis, about women's roles in society from a historical perspective. Renee is a historian and devoted advocate for women’s rights. She sits on the Board of Directors for UniteWomen.org Action and served as their Executive Vice President of Political Action, also creating their "Unite Against Rape" campaign to raise public awareness of the issues of rape, human trafficking and violence against women.
Combining her love of history with her love of activism, Renee led UniteWomen.org - in partnership with several other prestigious organizations including the National Women's History Museum, the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History - through the planning of the Suffrage Centennial Celebration, which was a week of events in D.C. leading up to a reenactment of the Woman Suffrage Parade of 1913.
Renee is a graduate of McNeese State University, where she won a medal for her Senior Thesis, and she is currently working on her M.A. at Louisiana Tech University. Renee runs a Facebook page focused on Women’s History, and she lectures about the role of social media in modern politics
The Authentic Woman is hosted by women's rights leader, Shannon Fisher. The show delves deeply into the worlds of writers, artists, celebrities, and community leaders - discovering their personal inspiration and passions. The Ferguson Case - Will Justice Prevail?
People are getting antsy. Supporters of Brown's family want to see Wilson go to trial. The officer's supporters want him to be vindicated. Business owners worry about their property. Officials are concerned about keeping the peace.
The signs pointed to the grand jury drawing near a decision as to whether Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson will be charged with a crime for fatally shooting Michael Brown.
What do you think?
Was this excessive force? Was this self-defense? Are cops properly trained to handle these kind of cases? orAre have they become trigger happy? Why are these kind of cases becoming so "common"? As a parent, what are you telling your son? Do you think the city already knows the verdict? How will the nation respond, if the cop is not considered guilty? Should young Black men around the country be "MORE" concerned? Will justice prevail?
Let's Talk about this case!
Thank you for your continued support.

Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church will honor Pastor Harry Toussaint for 30 years of faithful service on Sunday November 23, 2014, time 3pm. The church is located 322 Davis Ave, Pass Christian, MS, 39571. Pastor Toussaint was born November 21, 1950. He attended Opelousas High school in Opelousas Louisiana, graduating in 1969. He served four years in the United States Navy as a Ship Serviceman Barber 3rd Class, and later served in the United States Navy Reserves. In January 1972 Harry married Dominiciana (Nene) Manlubant and to this union, two children were born, a girl Roland and a son Armando. In 1984, Reverend Toussaint accepted the call to lead Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church. These 30 years have both fulfilling and challenging. After the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Pastor Toussaint was instrumental in obtaining financial and physical help for the Church, its members, as well as the community of Pass Christian. We are proud to call Reverend Toussaint our Pastor, man of God, Father, Leader and Friend. We pray that he will continue to be an instrument that God uses to strengthen his people.
