Welcome Back to Madison Square Garden

    in Sports

It has been seven years since Wladimir Klitschko has fought in the United States. Tonight Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko returns to Madison Square Garden to defend his title againt Bryant Jennings (19, 19, 10 Kos).

"I am really excited to be back in the States," Klitschko said. "Champion of the world means to fight in different countries, in different cities, which I have accomplished in the past years. I've been fighting in Berlin and Switzerland. I've been fighting in Moscow, Russia. I've been fighting in many German cities. It's always exciting to be back in the States and to be back at the Garden.

"I've been collecting my belts, all those belts. It's a lot of work, a lot of fights, and it's definitely exciting to be back at the Garden, the mecca of entertainment."

"I hear it all the time about the history. It comes in one ear and out the other. Those guys are icons to me, Louis, Holmes, [Muhammad] Ali. I don't feel comfortable to be compared to anyone. Not because I don't like them. It's because I respect them so much. This is for somebody else to do. Maybe I'm too humble but I don't pay attention to it." Klitschko said.

WORLD WIDE AFRICA THE VOICE OF THE PAN AFRICAN MOVEMENT

    in Politics

Here is an article taken from a News paper coming out of South Africa Yesterday. "Shackled, four men who allegedly stabbed Emmanuel Sithole to death at the weekend smiled at their loved ones, even sharing a joke, as they were led to the holding cells of Johannesburg's Alexandra Magistrate's Court.

"They were laughing just like that as they walked away from killing my brother," wept Sithole's sister Thando Sithole.

"They hunted him down like a dog. They killed him like a dog in the street. And now they laugh.''

Speaking after Mthinto Bhengu, Sizwe Mngomezulu, Ayanda Sibiya and Sifundi Mzimela appeared in court, Thando Sithole was unable to contain her rage.

"We want justice. We want them to get life. They must get life for taking a life. They must never taste freedom again."

Sithole's younger sister, Jordina Masia, who was with Emmanuel when he was attacked, said she had pleaded with the men not to hurt him. "I begged. I cried. I asked them not to. They killed him because when they took his cigarettes without paying, Emmanuel confronted them, demanding payment. Just like that they killed him."

A series of photographs in the Sunday Times chronicling the Mozambican trader's murder in Alexandra on Saturday continues to enrage South Africans.

That rage, compounded by Monday night's shooting of a Zimbabwean couple in Alexandra, prompted the government to deploy hundreds of troops to the township and other xenophobia flashpoints, including in KwaZulu-Natal.

Late last night, about 400 police, supported by heavily armed infantry soldiers in armoured vehicles, shut down large sections of Jeppestown, Johannesburg." With the greatest of scrutiny and disbelief I am watching as the Fall of African Unity begins

Ted Chabasinski - The Barbarity of Electric Shock Treatments on Children

    in Politics Progressive

Ted Chabasinski  is an attorney and human rights activist in Berkeley, California.  In 1944, as a 6-year-old boy so intellectually gifted he jumped from first grade to third he was taken from his home in the Bronx to New York’s Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced “schizophrenic”, because his mother had been labelled “schizophrenic”. There he began a series of 20 electro-convulsive shock treatments. The boy, Ted Chabasinski, was one of hundreds of children used in ECT experiments. Tests since condemned as barbaric. He remained an inmate in a state psychiatric hospital until the age of seventeen. Chabasinski survived and became active in the civil rights movement and ultimately an attorney.

Ted has organized an International Day of Protest  Against Shock Treatment, being held on May 16, 2015. There will be demonstrations in many countries and cities around the world.

Autism, Seeing the World From a Different Angle

    in Family

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. With the May 2013 publication of the DSM-5 diagnostic manual, all autism disorders were merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD. Previously, they were recognized as distinct subtypes, including autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome.

ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.

Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development. However, the most obvious signs of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between 2 and 3 years of age. Autism Speaks continues to fund research on effective methods for earlier diagnosis, as early intervention with proven behavioral therapies can improve outcomes. Increasing autism awareness is a key aspect of this work and one in which our families and volunteers play an invaluable role.

Please Welcome our special guests who have taken the time out to tell their stories.
