Julian Walker and Tyra B MRTR

    in Pop Culture

    Celebrating Over 150 Episodes!

Hosts: Jamel, Derrick Dwayne and Flash Gotti

#MyRealTalkRadio interviews Blackbird Star: Julian Walker and Singer/Songwriter: Tyra B.

Rookie actor Julian Walker is the breakout star in the poignant new film, "Blackbird." The coming-of-age drama, based on the 1986 novel by Larry Duplechan, tells the story of Randy Rousseau, a saintly choirboy in small-town America struggling to reconcile his sexuality and conflicting religious beliefs.

Born and raised in Petersburg, VA, Tyra knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She started singing and dancing at talent shows in elementary school, and spent much of her free time practicing her craft. Her hard work paid off when, in 2004, at yet another one of these talent shows, a DJ from nearby Richmond was in the audience and decided to put her single, "Country Boy," on his radio show. Before too long she was a local celebrity, helped also by the success of her second single, "Still in Love," which led to an opening spot on Destiny's Child summer 2005 tour. Soon, she signed to Warner Bros., with plans made for her debut album, Introducing Tyra (which included the song "Get No Ooh Wee"), to be released. It wasn't until 2008, however, after yet another successful single, "Giving Me a Rush," hit the airwaves and television, that the singer, who was now calling herself Tyra B, issued her true debut, Past Due.

    Interview with Doc Walker

    in Music

With over 25 hit singles and 12 CCMAs in the past two decades, DOC WALKER's Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw have seen it all - but at the end of the day, they know what - and who – is ultimately important.

That’s What I Call Love, a romantic tribute to their wives, follows the top ten single Put It Into Drive, the summer jam Shake It Like It’s Saturday Night and the catchy That’s How I Like It - all from their latest album called The 8th.

Manitoba's Doc Walker called on fans to submit family and love-inspired photos, giving other families and couples a chance to share their love. The pictures are featured in the lyric video for That's What I Call Love.

“Our music speaks to the pride we have in our roots, and the gratitude we have to the fans,” says lead singer Chris Thorsteinson, “and that is the most important thing. At the end of the day, all we want to do is write a record that we love, and that we know our fans are going to love and want to sing along to.”

    in Entertainment

Prior to her writing years, Walker Smith worked in Los Angeles under the name Bobbi Walker as a recording artist signed to the prestigious Casablanca label. Even as she recorded three solo albums, she quietly continued her creative writing studies and began writing professionally part-time.  In 1995, she moved to New York to pursue a full-time writing career.  There she wrote commentary and interviews for two magazines, Vertigo and African Voices, as well as features for the Reel Sisters Film Festival.  She completed a biography of celebrated radio pioneer Jack “The Rapper” Gibson in 1999, and then moved to New Orleans.  Smith released her first novel The Color Line just two months before Hurricane Katrina made landfall.  After relocating, she continued to write and finally finished her most personal novel. As a second-generation musician, Smith combined childhood memories of her father’s bebop jam sessions with her own experiences to create the world and characters of Bluestone Rondo. She now resides in Houston, Texas with her husband David.Prior to her writing years,
