    Fitness programs abound, from yoga and Pilates to step aerobics and strength training — either at home or in a gym. So which type of fitness program is right for you? Ask yourself these questions to figure it out.


    What is your current fitness level?


    You probably have some idea of how fit you are. But assessing and recording baseline fitness scores can help you set your fitness goals and measure your progress. To assess your aerobic and muscular fitness, flexibility, and body composition, consider recording:



    Your pulse rate before and immediately after walking 1 mile (1.6 kilometers)
    How long it takes to walk 1 mile
    How many pushups you can do at a time
    How far you can reach forward while seated on the floor with your legs in front of you
    Your waist circumference at the level of your hipbones
    Your body mass index


    Do you have any health issues?


    If you are age 50 or older, haven't exercised for some time, or have chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, it's a good idea to to consult your doctor before beginning an exercise program.


    It's also good to keep in mind that as you age, impaired balance, decreased elasticity of tendons and other factors can limit your exercise capacity. Injuries also are more frequent, and recovery takes longer. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't exercise or that you won't benefit from it. Just be sure to seek input from your doctor or an exercise therapist about how to create a program that's appropriate for you.

    Rhana Bazzini - 81-Year-Old Activist Walks To Get Money Out of Politics

    A lot of people are fed up with all the money being shoveled hand over fist into politicians pockets. But one 81-year-old woman took her frustration all the way from Sarasota to Tallahassee, Florida -- on foot.


    Talkupy with Annie Lindstrom welcomes Rhana Bazzini to the show on Thursday at 11 a.m. ET. Rhana will talk about her two-month walk across western Florida to raise awareness for the need for a Constitutional Amendement and Move To Amend's efforts.


    Inspired by Doris "Granny D" Haddock who walked across the U.S. in 1999, Rhana talked to people she met along her way, got their signatures on petitions and met with elected officials to "get them to take a tough stand on the issue."

    New Seasons - Live Abundantly!! Hope for The Holidays

    There are so many people all around us whose hopes have been shattered.  Perhaps it has been one too many incidents that have taken place in their lives and there has literally been NO time to recover from any one of them.  Old folks would say "when it rains, it pours".  Sometimes people are smiling to keep from crying.  Hope for some people are liken unto a dirty glass; they can't see anything other than the dirty residue on the glass.  Hope during the holidays are sometimes excruciatingly painful for some.  I wonder how many people we walk around, work around, speak to or encounter in some way that are at the brink of hopelessness.  They don't see a way out.  My heart goes out to people especially during the holiday season.  The holidays are usually painted pictures of family and friends; love and laughter; food and fun.  However, for many people is such a time of despair and depression.  Some people actually dread the holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Some people get the holiday blues for whatever the reason.  Some people are not in close family relationships and may be estranged.  Here's the good news, we have a universal charge to spread love and give hope to those who are hopeless during Christmas times.
