He has been blessed to share the stage with Hip hop heavyweights The Clipse, Nicki Minaj, K Michele, etc. As well as Gospel Icons CeCe Winans, Tye Tribett, Earnest Pugh, Isaac Caree, Da Truth, Canton Jones, and the list goes on. He has been tapped 3 times to co-host the largest gospel music festival on the east coast with Industry giant Sheliah Belle,  as well as organize other gospel events in the Virginia area. He has appeared on a stellar nominated project, and holds a title for VSU got talent winner. With all these accomplishments the best is still yet to come!

    Tara A. Owens was named athletic director of BCCC on January 18, 2010.Owens will enter her second year as the head coach of the women's basketball team. In Owens first season as head coach, the women's basketball team posted 21 wins in the season on the way to capturing the 2013-14 MD JUCO Championship. The Lady Panthers eventually felll to Harford Community College in the Region XX Championship.Before coming to BCCC, Owens spent two seasons (2007-09) as the head women’s basketball coach at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va.Prior to NSU, Owens served as the head coach at Elizabeth City State University for three seasons, compiling a 58-31 record and leading the Lady Vikings to the finals of the CIAA Tournament on two occasions (2005, 2007).In 2006-07, Owens led ECSU to a 21-10 record, one of two 20-win seasons during her three-year tenure. After falling to North Carolina Central in the CIAA Tournament championship game, the Lady Vikings earned an at-large berth to the NCAA South Atlantic Regional. That team was led by CIAA Player of the Year Celeste Trahan, a Daktronics Division II second-team All-American.Owens got her start in coaching at Division II Cheyney (Pa.) University. She served as an assistant coach for two seasons prior to taking over as head coach from 1998-2004. At Cheyney, Owens also held the title of senior woman administrator and project administrator/activity director for the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP).A 1993 graduate of Virginia State University, Owens played for the Trojans from 1988-1991. She received her bachelor’s degree from VSU in physical education/health and completed her master’s degree in administration and supervision at Cheyney University in 1998.Owens holds memberships in the National Association of Female Executives, Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association.

    Meet Deborah Hanson, Community Advocate

    Deborah Hanson is very passionate about working with young adults to help them reach their goals and highest potential. A life skills coach/counselor and facilitator, with over 15 years in working with families including young adults in crisis management, and personal/professional development, Deborah has worked for private industries, state government, and non-profit entities. Additionally, she has developed and collaborated on several pilot community projects, and has volunteered for various non-profit organizations including Camp Diva, the James House Domestic Violence Shelter, and lends support to Women Ministries and Girl Empowerment Groups to offer her Wellness and Pampering Sessions.

    Deborah holds certifications in the following: Certified Housing/Financial Counselor; Workforce Development Counselor; Career Coach; Mental Health Support Counselor; Core Belief Counseling, Career Transition Specialist; Non-profit management, and Grant Writing. Deborah holds a B.S. Degree in Organizational Management and is a graduate of the VCU's Higher Ground, Women Leadership Program. She is also a member of the Richmond Public Schools, Richmond Technical Center, Advisory Council; and she is currently employed with Job Corps as an Admissions Counselor.

    Deborah has one son, Malcolm, who is a freshman at VSU. In her spare time, Deborah loves to travel, enjoys writing poetry and journaling,; and has aspirations of becoming a published author.
