Episode 1009: Professional Volunteer Fire Service

    in Training

In many areas of the country, fire departments have implemented junior firefighter programs to help recruit new members. Some departments have experienced great success with the programs, and others have had a difficult time. In addition, some firefighters speak favorably and fully support the programs, and others are against them. On tonight's show, host Tom Merrill and his guest will examine both sides of the issue and discuss the benefits as well as the challenges of having a Junior Firefighter program in our departments.

Our guest tonight is Chief Jeff Cash, who has been in the fire service for over 35 years serving in both career and volunteer departments. He is currently the chief of the Cherryville (North Carolina) FD – a position he has held since 1986 and is the past president of the North Carolina Firemen’s Association and serves as the North Carolina director to the National Volunteer Fire Council – also sits on the NVFC Executive Committee and is a member of the NVFC Junior Firefighter Program Advisory Group.

We welcome your input is well. Feel free to call in and discuss junior programs or anything else on your mind concerning our great volunteer fire service

    in Lifestyle

Molly has just hit a milestone  as a volunteer, where she  officially passed her  300th visit as a therapuetic assistant, and no one is prouder of her than her  papa, retired Army vet Ron Leonard. Molly is a real people pleaser, and wherever she goes she brings along peace, comfort and lots of smiles.

For the past two years, Molly frequented the Donaldson's Assisted living facility where she was honored recently as volunteer of the year! She also visits a few other seniors homes and everyone looks forward to her visits.
Molly also visit MEPS with Ron, where they go to be with the men and women entering military service and their families in cooperation with the USO. Last summer Molly was involved with Camp Progress (YMCA) and was a hit among the mentally challenged children. She is really one busy lady who deserves some recognition for all the hard work she is putting in helping others.

In fact, Molly is also assisting the Murfreesboro DA's office in some domestic violence cases. Who is this lady with the big heart?

When Molly was 6 weeks old, she was rescued by  Ron and his wife and when she turned 2, she started her basic training through Petco. From there, she graduated and went on to be trained as a Therapy dog by Canines for Christ. Today, as a result of her milestone, she will receive advance certification from the American Kennel Club.

    God Bless Miss Molly!!!
