Using Civil Rights Records to Find The Story In Your Community and Family

Please join genealogist and family historian Antoinette Harrell for a discussion of how and why researchers will want to explore the Civil Rights records to find relatives that were engaged in the Civil Rights movement throughout the South.  Ms. Harrell will use a case example of Mr. Herbert Lee a Civil Rights leader from Amite County, Mississippi to illustrate what was documented in Federal Records about him.

Antoinette Harrell, a renowned genealogist, author and blogger whose genealogical research has been featured on Nightline News, People Magazine and many other national and international public media. Harrell is the host and producer of Nurturing Our Roots Television and Nurturing Our Roots Blog Talk Radio and was appointed Honorary Attorney General in the State of Louisiana in 2003 for her studies in genealogy. She is also one of the recipients of the ASLAH Award in 2013 for her outstanding services as a humanitarian activist and film maker and has been featured in “Chronicle On Civil Rights” & Civil Rights History from the Ground Up: Local Struggles a National Movement.

    Parents who kill their children..

    in Motivation

A USA TODAY examination of more than three decades of FBI homicide data shows that on average, 450 children are killed every year by their parents. Northeastern University criminologists applied statistical models to the records. USA TODAY analyzed the database for a detailed look at who kills, who is killed and how. Several patterns are apparent:

The vast majority of child victims – three out of four – are under 5. More than a third of all victims are under a year old.
Nearly half of all victims died from physical beatings or other injuries at a parent's hands.
Fathers are more likely to kill. Men killed six out 10 children, most often beating or shooting them. Fathers were at fault in 75% of cases when children were shot to death by a parent and in 64% of cases when a child was beaten. "Violence is a masculine pursuit," says Jack Levin, a Northeastern University criminologist.
When mothers kill, they are far more likely to kill victims under the age of 1 than children of any other age. Nearly 40% of all children killed by their mothers were less than a year old.
When a parent is accused of killing a child, it dominates headlines and social media.

"People are fascinated by this," says Sara West, a forensic psychiatrist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland. "It's an unfathomable concept."

Topic: Government Shutdown, Vaccines, & After Show #NetNeutrality

Will the Government Shutdown if happen, affect you?  Do you remember the last one?   We need #netneutrality.  This will affect the economics & enterprise of Our community.    They have a federal bill on the table to eliminate all waivers of vaccinations which include medical, religious or philosophical.   This is not a light matter. Do you know what is in the vaccines?  Do you ask for the ingredients in the vaccine like many do for the brand of clothes on them?  In "many" NY & California are not allowing children that aren't vaccinated in head starts or child care.  This affect the single parent and the economically challenge of their respect as a human.  Did you know Mississippi & West Virginia doesn't allow for any vaccine waivers AT ALL!

LOTL The Comfort Zone Presents TANK. Debuts new single' If You Were Mine'

    in Music

TANK. Debuts new single' If You Were Mine' from his new  EP " IF YOU WERE MINE '

Tank came out on the other side with that "story"—his sixth full-length solo album, Stronger [Atlantic Records]. In between releasing Three Kings and touring, he spent the better part of 2013 building his latest body of work. Whether he was on a plane, in hotel rooms, or at home in Los Angeles, he completely submersed himself in the creative process. Tank also found an inspiring collaborator in the iconic Jerry "Wonder" Duplessis [The Fugees, Shakira, Miguel]. While in Jerry's NYC studio one night, the pair simply clicked.

"He's everything I thought he would be," Tank goes on. "He's a musician's producer. He can take these musical elements and make them absolutely fly. We wanted to make something that felt retro and part of the future all at the same time. I needed that inspiration from him."  The lead single "You're My Star," which was produced by Tank himself, shines a bright light on that kind of affection. After a dreamy intro, an upbeat swing gives way to handclaps and horns as Tank delivers one of his most infectious hooks to date. Originally inspired by the bass line from Michael Jackson’s "This Place Hotel", it's a swaggering anthem punctuated by powerful falsetto and live instrumentation.

"I needed to say it the way a woman loves to hear it and how she probably hasn't heard it in a long time," he smiles. "This is dedicated to my star. Nobody talks like that anymore. Nobody's poetic. Nobody's romantic. I've got to reintroduce that style."

Also on the album, "Dance With Me" immediately incites movement with its soulful singing and up-tempo bounce. Tank continues, "It's about having fun again. You're
