Tell The Truth Tuesday: Black History Month should be EVERY month in your home

    in Entertainment

Because I have a young son it is MY responsibility to educate him...not just the schools. We focus a lot on the past and people that DID things to move our culture and society forward. How come we never talk about the people that are LIVING Black History on a daily basis? It is of no small coincidence that we are going to watch an emmy award winning violinist this evening...he is Black. Violin isnt exactly synonymous with Black men. We dont speak much about Misty Copeland..the famed ballerina, who was told at a young age that she was too "muscular" to be a ballerina she is also Black. We dont speak about several people I see in society making a change and a difference in the communities thru art, music, dance, literary, journalism or many other areas. I would like to acknowledge them today.

    Extraordinary 19-year-old "channel" Courtney Amundson

    in Spirituality

Courtney Amundson began her path as a seeker at a young age, progressing to the point that these teachings began to flow through her, effortlessly and with complete love and joy, starting at age 16. In the beginning, the wisdom was received for her own evolution and understanding, but after a short time she was guided to share it with as many people as possible through Teachings from God. Since then, she has worked single-mindedly on getting these teachings out to the public, not only through the work of the book, but expanding into sharing her insights through publishing articles and speaking.

In addition to her dedication to the advancement of the teachings, Courtney is actively progressing toward qigong healing certification, as well as craniosacral therapy certification. And as a classically trained violinist, she is engaging her passion for music in new, more free expression.

Teachings from God has given Courtney the inspiration and tools to create the life that excites her, and more than anything she wants to inspire you to do the same!

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Kerensa Gray!

    in Music

It's almost difficult to write about someone who is your friend - who you have seen grow and flourish over the course of several years.  Kerensa Gray is that and a mink coat :)  She first came to visit yours truly when we were face-to-face at my former radio station.  She had to make the trek from her cozy house in Pennsylvania to unknown territory in Maryland.  But she went the distance the way she does ALL things: fearlessly.

As a middle school student, Kerensa showed a great deal of promise via the violin.  So much so that she played in the Frostburg State University Orchestra during those tender years.  Through the course of playing so much music and so often, she discovered that she had a voice.  And there was no stopping her motivation to become the best that she could be.  With discipline and an unbelievable array of gigs during the time that I've known her, Kerensa has truly made a name for herself. We've covered two albums during previous visits - the last was "Bliss" (and it was!).  This time, we'll focus on her new "Take Me In."  She covers beloved standards in the way that she knows how: with the knowledge and love of Jazz, with the innate Blues and Gospel that she feels - and with Folk and Smoke combined.  You'll hear and you'll KNOW.

Kerensa was the last winner of the annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition that was an important reason why attendees visited Artscape in Baltimore.  They let that event go, sadly - but Kerensa is still known for that remarkable honor.  It has paved the way for lovely musical associations with some of the greats in the business.  But, to really get a feel for what she can do, see her when she headlines.  Especially in intimate gatherings when she can let her hair down and sink her teeth INTO a song.  That's the Kerensa I know!   Join us at ONE on 1/12!
