Is Google Trying to Make Alphabet Soup of their Company?

    in Technology

After being the big dog of search engines for more than a decade, Google has decided to change its corporate monicker to Alphabet.  After 17 years if building a $400 billion per year corporation that controls everything from the world's most popular search engine (Google) to the world's most popular video portal (YouTube), to life extension resaearch firm (Calico), to self-driving car developer and a host of other acquisitions, Larry Page and Sergey Brin have decided to rename their enterprise.  Add to that the fact that CEO Page has turned the reins of Google over to Sundar Pinchai, and many people both in the Internet and the stock market are wondering what's going to happen next.  Even before the soup has cooled, rumors are swirling that Google is interested in acquiring yet more companies, including everything from Twitter to a company that makes satellites.  So if you are wondering if Google intends to make Alphabet Soup of their company, tune into this week's episode of Working the Web to Win.

Storyshucker Stu Perkins on Tell Me a Story

    in Culture

Storyshucker Stu Perkins on Tell Me a Story – no need to pinch yourself, it is actually happening today, Friday, August 28th.  We have tried a couple of times but the 3rd time has indeed been the charm for us here at The Magic Happens Radio Network. Visiting Stu’s blog, Storyshucker, and reading his tales is like taking a step back in time to when people took priority over popularity and family was the ‘inter-net’ where you learned everything. Oh, and that blog address is http://www.storyshucker.wordpress.com so be sure to head over and catch up the archives and see what heart-warming story has been shucked of late.  Also, keep an eye open for a brand new Chicken Soup for the Soul book, Volunteering and Giving Back, because Stu Perkins is one the contributing writers.  We cover this and more in today’s Tell Me a Story, a presentation of The Magic Happens Radio Network. Find us at http://www.themagichappens.com/

Sue Ellen Allen on Expert Insights Radio!

    in Self Help

    3pm ET / 2pm CT / 1pm MT / 12pm PT

    (Outside US: Dial 00 + 1 + 646-727-1711)

Viki Winterton interviews Sue Ellen Allen!

Sue Ellen is a former University of Texas grad, former educator, former business owner, former community leader, and former inmate at Arizona State prison.

She is a current author and activist promoting education behind bars. She serves as Executive Director for Gina’s Team, an organization that brings educational programs and speakers into prison to inspire and empower the inmate population to strive for a better future and a successful reentry. Gina’s Team is named for her prison roommate who died there of medical neglect. Gina’s death was a defining moment of Sue Ellen’s journey, giving her life a new purpose and passion.

In prison, under harsh conditions, she survived advanced breast cancer and learned to turn pain into power. She also learned that not all prisons are behind bars, and that every journey has a purpose. Overcoming incredible odds, she found her purpose and now works with prison officials, legislatures, and interns from Arizona State University to serve the forgotten population behind bars, so that upon their reentry to society they will join our community as positive, contributing members.

The award-winning author of The Slumber Party From Hell, a memoir about her prison journey, her writing has also been included in Serving Productive Time by Tom and Laura Lagana, authors of Chicken Soup For the Prisoner’s Soul. Additionally, many of her poems were published in Cosmopolitan magazine under the leadership of Helen Gurley Brown.
