Ruth Moore Act HR 671: The bill would allow a statement by a survivor of military sexual trauma to be considered sufficient proof that an assault occurred. The House approved the bill by voice vote Monday night. Cathy Santos contacted the office of Congresswoman Pingree and shared the following comments as being the only victim of sexual assaults to fight the government and win while service with a 15-6 Pentagon Investigation.
I was concerned about the language here that appears to give sexual assault victims way too much power over their authority. These subordinates while serving, in my interpretation will be able to provide a statement - now, in my experience of 22 years, I know that their are a great deal of women who have been denied the opportunity to tell their stories and to get the remedy they deservied; however, I also believe that the national security is being compromised by the command's ability to lead without these restrictions placed on them by advocates in the civilians world.
How is it possible to lead a command in combat with thiese type who have no real training for war because of the restricitions placed on their leaders.
Sexual assault victims and sexual harassment is a complicated matter and victims die, are murdered in combat. There are no protections for these victims when in combat or other remote environments and the power to use "rape" over their superiors is not to be taken lightly.
Civilians can not protect victims of rape on active duty, it will get worst for them, and no civilian can protect those who are given the power to provide a "statement" that becomes the only evidence required when false accusations are made, and reputations and careers are ruined - this is a poorly worded legislation and the military is not moving forward as a result. I will be following up.
Suicide is a serious public health problem that takes an enormous toll on families, friends, classmates, co-workers, and communities, as well as on our military personnel and veterans.
Uncovering the reason for an individual suicide death is complex and challenging. What we know from research is that 90% of people who die by suicide have a potentially treatable mental disorder at the time of their death—a disorder that often has gone unrecognized and untreated.
Join us for a very frank conversation about Suicide. Host Celeste S. Duckworth, with featured guests, LeAnn Hull, Founder/CEO of Andy Hull's Foundation, Brett A. Scudder, President/Chairman at The Suicide Prevention Institute, Roy Hobbs, News Anchor at WRDE News, Tisa Key, Actor/Writer/Filmmaker, and Jacqui Letran, CEO of Teen Confidence Academy, will share their experiences, what they have learned, breaking myths, and how they are advocating to prevent this tragic event.

On July 13, a young 28-year old woman was found hanging from a noose made from a plastic bag (allegedly) in her cell at the Waller County Jail in Texas, where she was incarcerated after allegedly assaulting an officer during a July 10 traffic stop. Her death is being investigated as a murder, though authorities have said that she appeared to have hanged herself.
Who was this young woman, who was like so many young adults who have spoken openly of racial and police injustices? … Her name is Sandra Bland.
Here we find ourselves again, addressing the loss of a life of another young black person under suspicious circumstances while in the custody of law enforcement, and Hot Topics Talk Radio will be addressing the inconsistencies in the accounts of the death of Sandra Bland.

Controversy and speculation surround the events of Sandra Bland. The 28 year old Chicago woman who committed suicide in a Waller County (Texas) jail. Bland was stopped by state trooper, Brian Encinia for failure to signal before changing lanes. At some point a scuffle ensued, Bland kicked the officer and he arrested her for assault. Three days later Bland was found dead in her jail cell of an apparent suicide.
Join Host, Tracy L. Bell at 6:30 p.m. on "Conversations Of A Sistah" as I address this question and talk about the comparison between Bland's suicide and that of another black woman in the same cell the day before.
