Nancy Van Apeldoorn founded the Lap Robes for Veterans group. They started out as two members and grew to over 50 sewers. Their motto is “So many veterans, sew little time.” In the past 8 years the group has made and delivered over 3,000 lap robes to veterans who are participating in the Honor Flight Program. Volunteers meet the veterans at the airport when they are returning home from Washington, D.C., welcome them home and hand out the lap robes.https://www.facebook.com/LapRobesForVeterans?fref=ts

You have the power to change the world. Your decision can restore life to someone dying in spirit, hopeless, alone, and full of despair. Today we reach out to lend a helping hand to an organization that has helped mend the broken hearts and minds of men and women who have served in the armed forces. Many have been abandoned by the very government which sent them abroad to fight, and having returned home, found themselves without income, medical benefits, or much needed counseling and healing of the spirit. Our guests today will share their stories about how RTF Veteran Center has been a life saving vehicle for them and many veterans. Today we call on our global family to lend a helping hand. This is a Radiothon, in which we are asking those who listen faithfully to empower this organization to continue its dynamic work, by going to the website and contributing today. We'll acknowlege every participant, and publicly thank you for your support, unless you request anonymity. Please go to www.rtwvetcenter.org and hit DONATE. For every $20 donation, we'll send you an autographed copy of the book The Female Solution.
RTW Veteran Center offers a home, food, and a family atmosphere to homeless veterans who have returned from war only to find that the family they had can no longer cope with them and the country they risked their lives to defend has forgotten them. Today we're working together to give special support to RTW - which stands for Remaking The World. So many famlies are in crisis, suffering the effects of the military veterans have come home still suffering from the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder of combat, and having nowhere to turn for counseling. How do you cope when your spouse is a war veteran? Could a sudden flashback cause them to pick up a weapon and do you bodily harm? Female veterans are suffering even greater issues, many having been survivors of rape by their fellow officers, and not able to report the incidences or seek justice, are still living with the trauma after they have returned home. Dr. Daniel Habeel and Arnetha Habeel discuss their struggle to provide a home and a place of healing for service men and women. Other guests join us to tell their shocking stories. We urge you to lend a helping hand today, by going to www.rtwvetcenter.org and hit "Donate"!
