Until You Walk The Path, You Won’t Know Where it Goes will be chatting with veteran and VA whistle blower, Jeannette Taper on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 1 pm eastern.
Jeannette Taper has 30 years of combined military service. Like many other service members, she has experienced traumatic events that changed her life forever. The first was a simple back surgery between the T8-T9 that went wrong and she left the hospital in a wheel chair. The second event happened during her recovery from surgery, when she was sexual assaulted. That was the beginning of my journey to heal through hell. She was recruited by the VA to as a Peer Support Specialist. She was assigned to the Cheyenne Medical Center. She learned that of “Ethical Boundaries in the Patient-Clinician Relationships “ had very little meaning to other members of the staff.
Today is Friday 27 November 2015 it is the day after Turkey Day 2015 and the last Friday of November 2015.
Today is open Mic and we are going to be asking our audience to share whats on your mind today as we in the veteran community get through the Holiday. It is often the holidays that are toughest for veterans and their families.
We are opening our Brooklyn Navy Yard lines 347-884-8078 at 2300 Zulu time! That would be as follows in US times (for our new civilian family and friends) Atlantic/ Eastern is 7PM,Central 6PM, Alaska/Mountain is 5pm,Pacific is 4PM, Hawaii is 1PM, Guam is 0900 AM
We want to hear from you!
This episode is the breakdown of the holidays and what they can mean to the services. Those with familys may act different than those witout familys, and there may be suprises out there that suprise you. Does everyone go home to the comfort of their home on Thanksgiving? Maybe their comfort of home is now the barracks? These times of the year can be extremely difficult for Service Members and Veterans alike as these dates are used in reflection of days not so long ago, in situations far from ideal. Join us tonight, what is your opinion?
Today is Thursday, 26 November 2015, Thanksgiving day and we have a lot to be thankful for 2015.We are thankful to our men and women on active duty defending our liberty so that we may have peace at home on this Thanksgiving day. We must also be mindful of the mena and women veterans who are not able to be with family and friends during this day for family or friends. Often our veterans do not complain but many are without food though they may be housed. We are yet thankful for being here to provide our community news and information M-F for the past 2 years.
We are going to address the lifestyle of veterans today to discuss the economic realities of active duty and veterans who are often unable to pay rent and have eough to eat for the entire month. We will look at the the fact that our active duty are often asked to be ready for deployment anywhere in the world but their pay is not such that can withstand the riggors of family life and being ready to hop anywhere on the globe in 18 hours or less.
Ask Dr. Applewhite (Host, Counselor. Educator and Army Veteran), how Veterans with Disability can help others overcome the fear of asking for accommodations at school and work. Many students and employees hide their challenges to read, listen, and communicate until their performance is affected. Guests address asking for accommodations from Disabled Student Resources and Employee Assistance Programs. Hear Special Guest, Dr. Beverly Poellnitz, Educator, Entrepreneur, from Maricopa Community College and others, as they enlighten us on how cultural considerations must be given when discussing any issue of learning, mental health, and performance.
