Karl Victor Davis and Connecticut 'Harty' Taylor were both born in Mount Vernon, Kentucky in 1905. In 1929, Doc Hopkins enlisted Davis and Taylor for the Krazy Kats, a string band that featured folk songs and pop tunes in their repertoire. Following a year with WHAS in Louisville, Davis and Taylor moved to WLS in Chicago where they became part of the Cumberland Ridge Runners on the 'National Barn Dance' radio show. Davis and Taylor were originally known as the Renfro Valley Boys and they recorded under that name for Paramount in 1932. It was because of their radio work that they became known as Karl & Harty. In 1934 the team began recording for the American Record Corporation labels. I'm just here To Get My Baby out Of Jail was their first hit. Powerhouse Authors & Renaissance Women: Betty Stephen and Angelia Vernon Menchan

    in Books

Her most passionate work thus far is the highly anticipated novel Growing Decisions.  Her love for the characters of Growing Decisions can be compared to that of a mother for her children.  These were/are her children.  She carried them for many years and to be able to share them with the world is surreal.  Growing Decisions (Part 2) will be released in early 2016.  Talks are in the works to bring this epic tale to the silver screen.  She is currently working on her 4th and 5th novels entitled “The Cook Family” and her autobiography “Time of Release.”  In addition, to her books, Betty is co-writer and co-director on a pilot TV show entitled Business and Pleasure of New York (working along side CEO Elijah Harmon, Harlemvetz Entertainment and Management, LLC).

Angelia's ability to help our teen moms see themselves as she did was a special gift. She instilled within them a desire to make better choices, take control of their bodies and their lives. They realized their pasts didn't have to determine their futures. Angelia let them know their worth.
