Join Petulia Melideo of Context Travel as she shares tips on how to avoid non-certified and illegal guides at the Vatican plus how to find your way in Venice.
You'll learn how to identify non-certified guides, how to avoid them, getting into the Vatican without waiting in a 3+ hour line, and the unfortunate result of your tour if you get caught with a non-certified guide.
We then switch to discuss how to get around beautiful Venice once you step out of the train station. You'll learn how to get to your hotel, how to find your bearings, which maps are the best option and as importantly which maps aren't a good option.
This episode came as a request from a listener of the How to Tour Italy show. Thank you Evangelina for a wonderful topic idea. I hope Petulia and I answered your questions well.
Keep the show topics coming.

The NOMADstudio organization was founded by artist Carrie Boucher. After living and working as an artist in Chicago for a decade she returned to the Tampa Bay area disappointed to find that art was underfunded and even eliminated from the curriculum in many area schools. The organization was started based on her belief that making art, as a form of human expression, is for all people, not just those who had access to the tools, supplies and education to participate.
In order to fulfill the mission of getting art to all it became immediately apparent that this project would have to be mobile to accommodate those who couldn’t or wouldn’t make it out of their neighborhoods to participate in a bricks & mortar based program. A few months after going public with her plan a family who owns several auto repair shops in Venice, Florida donated a former Arlington Transit bus to the project, and so the work began. After a long, hot summer of demo, and a winter of buildout, NOMADstudio launched at Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in March of 2014, and they have been out on the streets (on a mission to bring art to all) ever since!
NOMADstudio is currently competing in the 2015 Safety Harbor Downtown Business Alliance, Inc. Charity Fundraising Challenge in the 'Regional' Category to raise funds to be able to offer more services to children across Tampa Bay.
Please consider taking the challenge and supporting NOMADstudio in this fundraising campaign!
Mr. Richard Senate was born in Los Angeles, California. He was the oldest son of Leonard & Sylvia Senate. His father worked for MGM Studios along with his brothers and father on such classic films as The Wizard of Oz. In 1953 the family moved from Venice California to Thousand Oaks where they bought land. In 1963 Leonard retired and the family moved to the coastal community of Ventura, California. Here Richard attended Ventura High School and Ventura Community College where he earned an AA degree. He went on the Long Beach State University where he earned a BA degree in History. He was working on a second degree in archeology when he attended a field school at the old Spanish Mission of San Antonio de Padua (near King City, CA) At about 12:30, in the early morning hours of July 3nd, he saw the phantom figure of a monk. This unexpected encounter changed his life. He vowed to discover what ghosts were and why they walk the earth. He became one of the pioneer ghost hunters in the west. It is a career that has taken him to hundreds of haunted sites in the United States and England. He has appeared on many radio and TV programs over the years and has had published 18 books. He is a recognized authority of the subject of the paranormal. He met his wife, Debbie Christenson Senate in 1983. They were married in a haunted 1888 church and they have three children and today four grand daughters. They reside in Ventura, California where Mr. Senate still conducts investigations, writes books and articles, and conducts tour of haunted sites in the community. He also writes novels in the classic Steam Punk Style—his most current The Flight of the Hercules can be found on Lulu.com. His most recent ghost book—Silver Ghosts (with Sandie LaNae) is about haunted places and investigations in Norther Nevada. It too can be found on Lulu.com. He is working on several new projects he hopes to have finished by Fall.
