    GenX Tennis with Mike Baugh - Josh Sturgis USPTA U30

    Josh Sturgis began his tennis career at 13 years old, and quickly advanced earning MVP two years in a row on his high school varsity team. He continued on to play on scholarship at collegiate-level for Belhaven University (Jackson, Mississippi) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management and Business Administration. During his time at Belhaven, Sturgis competed in both doubles and singles matches, helping the program achieve their first NAIA national ranking in 15 years. Sturgis earned NAIA player of the week twice during his senior year. After his undergrad, he returned to Wellington, Florida where he grew up and continued pursuing his passion in tennis by becoming a certified USPTA teaching professional.



    Sturgis has a passion for working with kids, having taught several school tennis programs and Ibis Summer Camp (2010-2013). He continues to stay up-to-date with all 10 and under tennis and coach youth tennis formats and has furthered his tennis education by attending the USPTA State and World Conferences. Sturgis enjoys helping all level players improve their tennis game. He is currently an Assitant tennis professional at Ibis Golf and County Club and is the USPTA district president for west palm beach and serves on the marketing committee for USPTA Florida U30.

    Joe D’Aleo has been with TOPS’L Beach & Racquet Resort since 1995 and has been an integral part of making this one of the best tennis resorts in the country.  His passion and devotion to the game has given him an accomplished tennis background as a player, coach, and teacher.  Joe started playing tennis at the age of 3 in Miami Beach, FL with his parents and played his junior tennis mostly in the south and was ranked #5 in the state of Georgia in 1989 which led him to play collegiate tennis singles and doubles for Georgia Tech in Atlanta.  He has coached many state and nationally ranked juniors and adults during his career.  In 2003 he was voted Best of the Emerald Coast teaching professional.  Joe is certified with the USPTA as an Elite Professional for 20 years and was nominated USPTA 2006-2007 District pro of the year Florida division for the Panhandle.  He was the USPTA FL District President for District 1 from 2010 – 2013 and currently on the USPTA FL board as Vice President.  He has been awarded USPTA FL District President of the year for 2011 and 2012 and received the prestigious honor of USTA FL & USPTA FL service award in 2011.  Joe is the tournament director for the Helen Drake Invitational Tennis tournament one of the largest USTA adult tournament in the state of Florida with over 300 players each year.  The Helen Drake has been awarded three times the most recent in 2013 for the AL Mills Memorial Adult Tournament of the Year by USTA FL. His knowledge of the game has made TOPS’L one of the resorts to get voted a Top 50 tennis resort and TOP 5 Doubles Resort by Tennis Magazine and 13 years in a row ranked by Tennis Resorts Online as a TOP 25 U.S. Tennis Resort in the world

    A former physical education and health educator, Jean’s passion is promoting ThanksUSA's partnership with USPTA called Tennis Thanks the Troops.


    The Tennis Thanks the Troops campaign is a national challenge to pros and their clubs to raise donations for military families’ education through the ThanksUSA Scholarship Program.


     In its tenth year, ThanksUSA has topped $11 million in scholarships for military families! That’s nearly 3,700 scholarships since 2006, living up to their motto: Thanking our troops with the gift of education.


     Jean is married and has three grown daughters. She lives in Winterset, Iowa and enjoys tennis, golf and spending time with family and friends.

    Kirk Anderson is the Director of Coaching Education at the United States Tennis Association.  Anderson is one of nine tennis teaching professionals to be certified as a Master Professional by the USPTA and the PTR.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University.


    Anderson has published dozens of articles and written seven books on tennis.  His honors include the International Tennis Hall of Fame Educational Merit Award, the Person of the Year by Racquet Sports Industry, the Professional Tennis Registry Professional of the Year and the Western Michigan University Department of Human Performance and Health Education Alumni Honor Academy.

    I am a a USPTA certified professional with 5 years of experience. I was a nationally ranked junior player in Venezuela and competed internationally for four years. I was fortunate to receive a full athletic scholarship to Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee where I competed in the NCAA Div II National Championships twice, earned the school’s first ever national ranking, and graduated with a degree in Biochemistry.I started my coaching career as an assistant coach for the Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis, a NCAA Division I institution. I have also taught at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, Camargo Racquet Club and Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati. I also have experience teaching at multiple summer camps including Tennis: Europe. I am very passionate about tennis and growing the sport in any way that I can.
