Host Cyrus Webb welcomes Leon Ridgeway of Street Gospel Magazine to Conversations LIVE to discuss how they are working to make sure that everyone is given a voice.
In this episode, political economist and artist Rob Urie discusses the limits of conventional economic theory by way of an excavation of its latent presuppositions. Beginning from a consideration of what is concealed rather than revealed by common metrics such as the GDP or unemployment rate, the conversation unfolds to a reflection on the historical and philosophical background of capitalism, even through Descartes back to the ancient tensions between Plato and Aristotle. It concludes with a consideration of alternatives, and an anticipation of Rob Urie's forthcoming book from Counter Punch, Zen Economics.
Radical Analysis aims to spelunk the questions that confront us, both as individuals and as a society. It is a forum for conversations that move beneath the surface to excavate the roots of those challenges. It is animated by that spirit of the Radical articulated so elegantly by Paulo Freire:
The radical, committed to human liberation, does not become the prisoner of a "circle of certainty" within which reality is also imprisoned. On the contrary, the more radical a person is, the more fully he or she enters into reality so that, knowing it better, he or she can better transform it. This individual is not afraid to confront, to listen, to see the world unveiled. This person is not afraid to meet the people or to enter into dialogue with them. This person does not consider himself or herself the proprietor of history or of all people, or the liberator of the oppressed; but he or she does commit himself or herself, within history, to fight at their side...

Dr. Kermit Gosnell is the most prolific serial killer in American History, but almost no one knows who he is. Mainstream media or Hollywood don't think it is a story, even though Gosnell killed more people than Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacey, The Zodiac Killer, and Ted Bundy combined! In a 30 year killing spree, it is thought he killed 1000's of babies. And that wasn't a national story? But Jodi Arias, who was on trial at the same time as Gosnell, for killing her boyfriend, just one person, was national news EVERY DAY. Ann McElhinney joins Joe today to discuss the Gosnell Movie project and how we can all help.
Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?
There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.
Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting.
But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree!
If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!
It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!
