    Tithing: PRE-CODIFICATION OF THE LAW

    in Christianity

"Tithe" as a Noun simply means "tenth." In many places in scripture the word is simply a number. It is also used as a verb, or an activity God requires as partial fulfillment of His covenant with Israel.

    Elements of a Covenant

Both parties agree to it, so there is an underlying assumption that each participant gets something out of it. The parties involved are Israel and God; the conditions of compliance are that if Israel will keep all the commandments and the precepts, God will be their God, and Israel will be His people. The consequences are long, happy, healthy lives; basically material blessings. Failure to keep ALL of the law would result in God bringing judgment upon His people. There were many requirements of the law, only one of which was the tithe.

    "Tithe" as a Verb

If the Israelites did their part, to fulfill the commandments (there were hundreds) and the precepts, then God was obligated by His Word to fulfill His part, and take care of and bless them. The Levites were not the first to tithe; many idolaters dedicated a tenth of their increase to their gods. Giving a portion of the spoils of war and of the increase of the field was common throughout the ancient world, from Greece to China to Mayan civilizations.

    PRE-CODIFICATION OF THE LAW

    Abram (Genesis 14:17-20)

    Jacob (Genesis 28:10-22)

Summary of the Tithe before the Law was Written Down

THE CODIFIED LAW (The Written Law of Moses)

Tithing Instituted as Part of the Covenant (Leviticus 27:30-34)

The Tithe Goes to the Levites (Numbers 18:19-28)

The Tithe of the Feasts (Deuteronomy 12:5-19)

The Tithe for the Priesthood & the Poor (Deuteronomy 14:22-29)

The Tri-Annual Tithe and Declaration of Fulfillment of the Law (Deuteronomy 26:12-15)

CROSS TALK RADIO- "WHAT IS A DISCIPLE " A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST ?

    in Religion

"WHAT IS A DISCIPLE " A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST ?

In the Great Commission, Jesus told us to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. But what does it mean to make disciples? And more to the point, what exactly is a disciple?

As I have stated before, every disciple is a Christian, but not every Christian is necessarily a disciple. So, before I can make disciples, I have to be sure that I myself am one, because it takes one to make one.

In Luke 14, Jesus laid out His requirements for discipleship. Let's look at one of them here: The disciple must love Jesus more than anyone or anything else.

Jesus said, "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:26).

I know that statement sounds shocking to us today. We ask, "Is Jesus really asking me to hate my family members to follow Him?" In the light of the New Testament, we see that Jesus was not demanding an unqualified hatred. He could not command us to honor our fathers and mothers and then also demand that we hate them.

Jesus was using the method of sharp contrasts, essentially saying that your love for God must be so strong-so intense-that all other loves would be like hatred in comparison.

Another way to say it would be, "If you want to really be My disciple, and live your Christian life to its fullest, you must love Me more than anyone or anything else!" You must love God more than your career or your possessions. You must love God more than your friends. You must love God even more than your family!

Urban Therapy with Sun #127 The Challenges Of Raising Special Needs Children

    in Lifestyle

Icylee Basketbill and Kelly Pointer will be our guests on this show to discuss Special Needs and the challenges that the parents of Special needs children face on a daily basis.

Every child born into this world is a blessing and there is nothing that feels as special as bringing a child into this world. We also have to take into account that some children are born into this world with needs that require a different level of attention than the average child.

Historically Special needs children would be labelled as retarded, sick, touched, slow or even freaks. Fortunately we have come very far in our understanding of how the brain functions and we have taken away the negative stigmas and are able to provide the children with the help that they need. The goal is to develop them into fully functional adults that are able to meet life's challenges the same as any other person.

Whether your child is mentally challenged, autistic, has cerebral palsy etc, it's gonna be very tough for a parent mentally, emotionally and especially financially. Our 2 guests will be on hand to help with any questions you may have concerning this such as:

What causes a child to be have special needs?

Is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

What happens if the parent of a special needs child dies before the child or is not physically able to provide care?

Is it normal to feel embarrassment or shame about your child and what can be done about it if you do?

What are the financial requirements needed to take care of a special needs child?

How does the attention needed for a special needs child affect the other children that you have?

There will be so much to talk about on this show so make sure you don't miss it.

    Tez Brooks,The Single Dad Detour

    in Books

Practical steps to embrace God's mission for single Dads

Conventional wisdom holds that fathers have few parenting skills and that mothers always know best. The single father is often considered a mythical creature, found only in sitcoms as an object of humor or pity. Where does that leave real single dads? Too often, it makes them susceptible to overcompensation or apathy.

Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He’s traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who’ve survived parenting and have hope to offer.

There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries—just authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another.

Tez Brooks is the father of four children and a missionary filmmaker for The Jesus Film Project. He has also been a journalist for Cru and a Florida law enforcement officer. Tez has been speaking and writing books and articles for over thirty years.

Practical steps to embrace God's mission for single-again dads. --Bill Hodgson, national director Campus Crusade for Christ Australia

If I were a single parent on this journey, I'd want Tez's comforting voice on my GPS. It's a warm and understanding voice that's traveled the back roads and knows where it's going. --Rick James author of Jesus Without Religion and A Million Ways to Die

For an easily overlooked demographic, Tez Brooks wisely, honestly, and courageously deep-dives into how divorced fathers can survive being single and still be really good dads. --Rohan Dredge, founder and CEO New Level Leadership

Homeland Stockpiling 'Less Lethal Specialty Munitions'

    in Politics

Reported from Mac Slavo at SHTFplan.com on April 3, 2015.

A new Homeland Security purchase order listed on FedBizOpps raises an eyebrow or two.

Over the course of 9 pages (PDF), the technical requirements call for an arsenal of specialized weaponry for training and deployment against crowds.

On top of a wide range of gas and chemical grenades, rubber bullets and other riot rounds, the purchase calls for “controlled noise and light distraction devices,” including flash bangs which set off a 175 dB sound with 6 – 8 million candelas light bursts in 10 milliseconds.

So why are the Feds prepping to take on crowds?

The collection of equipment provides a diverse range of toys with which authorities could push back crowds and potentially intimidate free speech as well.

Are there more riots coming? Is widespread civil unrest only a matter of time? Is it related to martial law exercises like Jade Helm 15?

What do the Feds know that we don’t?
