Author D.D. Lanz joins me this week to talk about his novel: Going, Going, Gone: A Journey to the Hereafter and more.
About the book:
John Janne has a good life--a thriving law practice, a wonderful family. But when Janne is diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and given six months to live, everything changes. Stunned, John wonders about his course of action, particularly about how to tell his family--they'd been after him for years to quit smoking. Rather than putting his family through the agony of watching him die a painful death, he will take his own life.
But suicide presents problems--how to do it so that his family doesn't wonder what went wrong in his life and blame themselves for his death. No, it will need to seem an accident. He decides on a canoe trip in northern Minnesota's Boundary Waters where he will drown his diseased lungs.
Lanz's Going, Going, Gone is more than a novel about a man's plan to end his life. It is a philosophical walk through discoveries about death--and afterlife. The book would be of interest to atheist, agnostics, and Christians struggling with their faith.
For more information about D.D. Lanz and his book:
The desperate act of a young girl, on the cusp of womanhood, to lose herself in the mean streets and cabarets of 1930s Berlin, and years later, the disappearance of a key American general shortly before D-Day in 1944 are links in an ingenious plot to gain the secrets of the Allied invasion.
Through a series of traumatic events Reichsletter Martin Bormann, the man more than any other that truly ran the German government toward the end of World War II, sets in motion a deadly gambit that ricochets across half the world and gains Bormann possession of the Normandy invasion plans. In the double dealing, back stabbing chaos that was the Nazi inner circle, this climactic information is the currency that will buy Bormann the one thing that he has desired above all others: the right to be the next Fuhrer.
So unfolds the dynamic pages of Secret Betrayal. This novel is a testament to the redemptive power of love, the evolutionary power of kundalini yoga and the war within a war waged by Reichsletter Martin Bormann and Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler for the mind of and influence over Adolf Hitler.
Deja was practically born to be a performer. The daughter of Norman Howell, a well-established stunt man/coordinator/director and stunt double for Kevin Costner, Deja traveled from location to location growing up, so it’s no wonder that she thinks of a movie set as “home.” As a little girl, Deja fell in love with the idea of performing. It would be the film “Dances with Wolves” where Deja would get her first taste of performing.
Yes, today's guest has the same last name as Karla Byrd, John's cohost, and that is because Oliver Byrd is Karla's husband. On today's show, John and Karla begin interviewing the 2015 class of Urban Heroes and they will start with Oliver. Oliver worked at Mellon Bank for many years, but also served the community as the chair of the United Way and the chairman of the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in downtown Pittsburgh. Oliver will talk about growing up in Pittsburgh and what motivated him to serve so selflessly throughout his career.

STRAIGHT GLASS!!!! (5STARS)
This is one of those books its hard to give a review on because you dont want to give out spoilers but you cant just say it was good because thats an understatement.
Everything about this book is straight glass...from the cover to the characters to the knowledge being dropped to the humor to the very end.
I waited on pins and needles for this book to drop and now I can't wait to discuss it because it was truly awesome.
If you thinking about reading it, make sure you start from the very beginning. It's the only way to truly understand the dope girl and her family of misfits.
My name is K Sherrie
And I recommend this read
