Join our host Keith Giles as he interviews Christian Historian Al Baker.
Keith and Al will take different sides in the discussion about Constantine's influence on the Christian faith, as well as the legitmacy of his conversion experience and his understanding of what it meant to be a "Christian".
ABOUT AL BAKER:
After serving as a university pastor for 14 years, Al Baker moved his family to Scotland where he did his Ph.D. work. Al holds a Ph.D. from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. His doctoral focus was on early church history in general, the spirituality of Clement of Alexandria in particular.
Dr. Baker was on the faculty of Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh NC for 6 years, serving as the interim Chair of the Philosophy and Religion department in his final year. He taught Church History and Intro to Philosophy along with a few other Religious Studies classes.
In 2005 he started writing and publishing the web site Church History 101. The site has had over 350,000 unique visitors. He has written several papers that are used in church history classes around the USA:
"Introduction to Gnostic Texts"
"How the New Testament Canon was Formed"
"Wine in the Ancient World"
to name the three most prominent.
In 2012 he turned his attention to Emperor Constantine and has dedicated 2014 and 2015 to the study of this important early church figure...and this, of course, is what led to Keith and Al meeting over the internet, exchanging numerous e-mails in discussion and fairly polite debate, and finally to this blog interview.
Al is the author of the book, "A Concise History of the Christian Church" which is available here:
Discipleship is a word that gets thrown around a lot at church. People have described classes, courses, programs, Bible studies, accountability groups, mission trips and even fellowship as discipleship. Often, people think making disciples is a specific call or spiritual gift, something only meant for the pastors, missionaries and “super-Christians.”
Discipleship is not an optional course. It is not a twelve-step program. It is not intended for only a select few to carry out. Christ’s mandate to make disciples is meant for every one of His followers.

I want to bring to our attention an achievement, a publication that has been produced mainly for our community but is for anybody who wants some help from the material that has been put into this publication. The book is called The Language of Revelation. (Lughatut-tan-zeel) It is by a brother that I have known to be dedicated and devoted to the study of Qur’aanic Arabic and the teaching of that subject to our students and to grown-ups as well. And that is brother Siddeeq Jihad. I think that most of us know him.
Brother Siddeeq Jihad would you please stand and face the audience... I would highly recommend this book for you all, who are studying (grown-ups) but also for our youngsters who are studying in separate organized Qur’aanic Studies classes and who are also studying in our school system. Clara Muhammad School System like the one in Atl., Wash. D.C., Chi. & many other places. I highly recommend this book, The Language of Revelation. Qur’aanic Arabic with lessons and studies to improve your ability to read the Qur’aan and get more understanding and to qualify yourself, In-shaa Allah to be a teacher one day. This show is sure to delight romance lovers Deborah Mello and Gwyneth Bolton, are two authors who know how to pleasure their readers
For Deborah Fletcher Mello, writing is as necessary as breathing and she firmly believes that if she could not write she would cease to exist. Her first novel, TAKE ME TO HEART, earned her a 2004 Romance Slam Jam nomination for Best New Author. In 2005 she received Book of the Year and Favorite Heroine nominations for her novel THE RIGHT SIDE OF LOVE. In 2008, Deborah won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award for Best Series Romance for her ninth novel, TAME A WILD STALLION. Her current book, CRAVING TEMPTATION, is heating up bookshelves.

And even then, it took finishing graduate school, several non-fiction publications, and a six-week course at the Loft Literary Center titled Writing the Romance Novel; before she gathered the courage to start writing her first romance novel.
