The Shemitah and Jubilees: Boom and Bust Economics Explained in Biblical Terms

    in Education

Shemetah (sabbatical year or sheviit literally "seventh) is the seventh year of the seven-year agricultural cycle mandated by the Torah for the Land of Israel and still observed in contemporary Judaism.  During shmita, the land is left to lie fallow and all agricultural activity, including plowing, planting, pruning and harvesting, is forbidden by halakha (Jewish law).

Israel set aside $29M for the farmers who obey the Shemetah Law (the Israel government believes that God will bless the land if they obey the Shemitah).  “While the Shemitah was designed by God to be a blessing to the people, when it was not observed, and when the people walked away from God, it became a curse,”  A Jubilee is a Sabbath of Sabbath years (7x7 years=49 years, so rest on the 50th

Jubilee:   Jubilee is the institution described in the book of Leviticus (25:8-24) where it is stated that a series of forty-nine years [was] to be counted (there is considerable uncertainty as to the date from when the counting is to begin, but traditionally it is from the creation of the world) and every fiftieth year declared a special year during which there was to be no agricultural work; all landed property was to revert to its original owner; and slaves were to be set free. The name Jubilee is from the Hebrew word yovel, “ram’s horn,” the year being so called because a ram’s horn was sounded when it was proclaimed (Leviticus 25:9). Since this verse says: “[Proclaim liberty] throughout the land for all its inhabitants,” the Talmudic view is that the Jubilee was not observed during the Second Temple period because the majority of Jews no longer lived in the land of Israel.

Thorne & Cross LIVE: Turning the tables on the interviewers about their new book

    in Books

You've heard them on Haunted Nights LIVE!  Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross bring you the best in horror, hauntings and spooks!  The tables are turned tonight when they become the interviewees on Authors on the Air. These two crazy kids have written another winning heart-stopper of a book and they have agreed to go under the lights in Pam Stack's studio.  Here's a little bit about The Cliffhouse Haunting:  Cliffhouse has not always been a place of rest and respite, though. Over the years it has served many vices, from rum-running to prostitution and although the cat houses have been replaced by a miniature golf course and carousel, Cliffhouse retains its dark history; darkest during the Roaring Twenties, when a serial killer called the Bodice Ripper terrorized the town, and a phantom, the Blue Lady, was said to walk when murder was imminent.

    Death walks With her…

Now, there’s a new killer on the loose and the Blue Lady sightings have returned. The Bellamys are losing maids and guests are being tormented by disembodied whispers, wet phantom footprints and the blood-chilling shrieks of mad laughter that echo through the halls of Cliffhouse in the dead of night.

Holly Stephey talks to S.R. Lore; The Playground of Life ,New Book

    in Books

The Playground of Life: Charitable New Book of Poetry, from London Writer, Examines War Between Ego & the Divine Self.John Lennon was absolutely right, the world needs more love. Nobody knows this better than S.R. Lore who, after being diagnosed with a long-term health condition, has spent her entire life seeing the world from a critical yet positive perspective. She, like Lennon, is committed to bringing more humanity and peace to life’s proceedings. As an accomplished poet, Lore is finally publishing her first collection titled ‘The Playground of Life’  a small book with a boundless and powerful big message. The poems in 'The Playground of Life' are mostly from personal experiences on reflection. It analyses life and relationships, especially, love. As some of the poems are written at different periods in the author's life the tone and mood changes to reflect that time and situation.Furthermore, because S.R.Lore grew up with a long-term health condition, she started exploring the meaning of life from a spiritual aspect from an early age. The poems also relate to the conflicted role that one has with oneself when it comes to spiritual matters which she call 'the war between the ego and the divine self'. “I, like millions, have always struggled in a battle between spirituality and the ego. While most let these forces pass them by, I saw it as the perfect topic to focus on through poetry,” explains Lore. “It carries a very transformative message that the world needs to hear, particularly at the current time when discord has never been more prevalent.”But Lore’s project is far from personal gain, as she proudly explains.“50% of each sale will be donated to the UCL Hospital and FareShare, two organizations that have benefited me personally yet suffer from a severe lack of funding.‘The Playground of Life’, from Spiderwize,  http://amzn.to/1BPSWLW
