UDL: Teacher(Father)-Student(Daughter) Dialogue On Al-Islam's Education Paradigm

    in Education

Today's UDL broadcast is a limited premiere airing of a recording from the on going dialogues between Imam Faheem Shuaibe and HIs Daughter Haneefah Shuaibe-Peters. She holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.  She is the founder of the current Weekend School (An-Nas) at Masjidul Waritheen. Faheem and Haneefah are in on-going developmental dialogues as they construct the blueprint for Independent Islamic Education.

"So, “Al-Islam’s Education Paradigm” means that the “Education Paradigm” will be possessed by (subject to) Al-Islam.  Thus stated as an “of construction“, it would be “The Education Paradigm of Al-Islam”.  This means that the methodology and techniques as well as the tools and principles in the field of education will be Islamic.  Islamic doesn’t mean drawn only from explicitly religious texts and sources authored by Muslims, but includes materials adapted from other sources which are aligned with the universal values of Al-Islam."
                                                                                                                      - Imam Faheem Shuaibe -“What Is The Education Paradigm of Al-Islam?”

UDL: A Clear Understanding Of The Forces Of Faith

    in Education

    Qudsi #25

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me (My Will and Intention), I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me (My Will and Intention) with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me (My Will and Intention) with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. {WE BECOME QUANTUM ENTANGLED WITH ALLAH’S WILL} Were he to ask [something] of Me (STRIVE FOR SOMETHING THAT IS In accordance with My Will and Intention; ANYTHING GOOD AND USEFUL), I would surely give it to him (WHATEVER OF GOOD MY SERVANT WANTS TO CREATE I MANIFEST IT), and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him."

UDL: Islam and Nationalism Fard's Strategy

    in Education

'When we look at civilization, civilization itself, how nations have come into power, how communities have grown, organized and formed nations and nations have become powerful and began to compete with each other, war with each other.  They form bonds of allegiance with each other for benefits of more power, more land.

When we study the history of nations we see those who follow the line of civilized progress, civilized progress surviving those that just go for power without some kind of value checking that power.  The nations that have survived have been nations that have upheld civilization, that have lifted up civilization and have pledged themselves to always be committed to protect, preserve, hold up civilization.  Those are the nations that have survived.  We have come to a time now where any nation that will turn to barbarism or indicate that it has no civilization checking it any more it is condemned immediately and some or all of the nations right away stop it, they stop that nation, they put that nation out of business." Pollan is Knight Professor of Journalism at UC Berkeley.

UDL: "Believers In Allah Have Nothing To Worry About"

    in Education

40: 78. We did aforetime send apostles before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee and some whose story We have not related to thee.  It was not (possible) for any apostle to bring a Sign except by the leave of Allah: but when the Command of Allah issued the matter was decided in truth and justice and there perished there and then those who stood on Falsehoods.

         79. It is Allah Who made cattle for you that ye may use some for riding and some for food;

         80. And there are (other) advantages in them for you (besides); that ye may through them attain to any need (there may be) in your hearts; and on them and on ships ye are carried.

         81. And He shows you always His Signs; then which of the Signs of Allah will ye deny?

         82. Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than these and superior in strength and in the traces (they have left) in the land: yet all that they accomplished was of no profit to them.

         83. For when their apostles came to them with Clear Signs they exulted in such knowledge (and skill) as they had; but that very (Wrath) at which they were wont to scoff hemmed them in.

         84. But when they saw Our punishment they said: "We believe in Allah the One Allah and we reject the partners we used to join with Him."

         85. But their professing the Faith when they (actually) saw Our Punishment was not going to profit them.  (Such has been) Allah's way of dealing with His servants (from the most ancient times).  And even thus did the rejecters of Allah perish (utterly)!

UDL: Imam Mohammed "Faith and Works" Cleveland, OH 1990

    in Education

We will also follow-up on yesterday's Jumu'ah.  "The Language and Logic Of Interfaith Dialogue"

An interview conducted by Focolare representative, Ms. Paola Santosr-fano with Imam W. Deen Mohammed focused on an event in  which took place in Washington, D.C.,  in November 2000 themed "Faith Communities Together."  (Published August 2000)

Imam Mohammed: She is the key person for this event (November 2000 Washington D.C.) .

We want the audience to see the Focolare Movement through Chiara Lubich, and she will address the audience there and it will get acquainted with her. We also will see performers performing and youngsters of the Focolare Movement singing and giving us a very beautiful presentation there. They will see all of this and witness all of this there.

But in my opinion, we will miss the real importance of all of this, if we don't know the ideology and ideas and the person who is responsible for making all of this happen for the Focolare and for our relationship also. And that is Chiara Lubich.

Focolare: And you too, Imam Mohammed.

Imam Mohammed: Well, that is because of Chiara Lubich. She opened up something in me. She opened up another room in my heart and in my soul and made me feel more comfortable in expressing my desire to have Muslims and Christians know each other, so we can be better citizens with each other. Not just for ourselves but for each other.

UDL: The GOP's Race Problem and Your Discussion

    in Education

It has been the stuff of legend for years now -- an interview that canonized GOP political consultant Lee Atwater gave while he was working in the Reagan White House in 1981. In that sit-down, Atwater explained how the Republican Party had so successfully executed the "Southern Strategy" of convincing large numbers of Southern Whites to vote Republican while navigating a new world in which overt prejudice was no longer politically viable. How? By replacing formerly overtly racist appeals, embodied in the n-word (which, Atwater noted, "you can't say" anymore) with coded language instead. These coded appeals -- "dog-whistles" -- whether about busing or, even more "abstract," as Atwater put it, things like tax cuts and other economic issues, would have the effect of "hurting blacks worse than whites," appealing to the constituencies the GOP was trying to attract, all while affording the party plausible deniability with respect to racism.

UDL: Follow-Up On The Weather Report

    in Education

“All this was inspired by the principle—which is quite true within itself—that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.”

UDL: Introduction to Reinhold Neibuhr "The Irony Of American History"

    in Education

“All men are naturally inclined to obscure the morally ambiguous element in their political cause by investing it with religious sanctity,” he once observed. “This is why religion is more frequently a source of confusion than of light in the political realm.” In the United States, he continued, “The tendency to equate our political with our Christian convictions causes politics to generate idolatry.” Evangelical conservatism and its growing influence on American politics, which Niebuhr did not live to see, have only reinforced this tendency."

"The demand of Muslims to do something or to demonstrate to the larger society that they are peaceful people and that they have nothing to do with ISIS or terrorism is accepting the premise of collective responsibility and that we have to publicly disavow what is beyond disavowal.”  Dr. Hatim Bazian

“Furthermore, it appears from numerous public statements that President Obama conveniently deflects the decisions made by his predecessor, George W Bush, when questioned about ISIS, by disregarding America’s problematic foreign policy in the Middle East, to shifting the attention exclusively to an extreme interpretation of Islam."  http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com

The Parable Of The Straight Path

Allah has given a parable of the straight path, and on the two sides of this path, there are two walls containing door ways.

On these door ways, there are curtains that are lowered down.

On the gate of this path there is a caller heralding, "O people! come and enter the straight path all together and do not divide.

"There is also another caller that heralds from above the path, who says when a person wants to remove the curtain on any of these doors, `Woe to you! Do not open this door, for if you open it, you will enter it.

The (straight) path is Al-Islam, the two walls are Allah's set limits, the open doors lead to Allah's prohibitions, the caller on the gate of the path is Allah's Book (the Qur'an), while the caller from above the path is Allah's admonition in the heart of every Muslim.

At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i also recorded this Hadith, and At-Tirmidhi said, "Hasan Gharib.''
