The Twelve Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth—Part III

    in Spirituality

We continue with the third episode in our four-part series on the Cosmic Citizen on the 12 apostles of Jesus of Nazareth.  After exploring the first four apostles, we turn to Philip "the Curious," Matthew Levi—the "tax collector," "Honest" Nathaniel, and Thomas Didymus.  These four knew not Jesus of Nazareth as well as the first four.  So what attracted them to Jesus? Our intention is then to study the fifth through seventh or eighth apostles this week.  You may want to know that Thomas was actually more of a courageous analyst and scientist than "doubter."
Our hosts, Paula Thompson, Christilyn Biek-Larson and Andre Radatus explore the remarkable profiles of these three or four men plumbed in Paper 139 of The Urantia Book. We think you'll enjoy this study and find curious, as most all students eventually do, how much more common these men were than holy and how wonderfully representative they were of the gamut of humanity. We will invite a variety of guests on this topic throughout the series to get their perspective on these apostles. How were these men challenges for Jesus and how did they manage to grow progressively, spiritually, and faithfully despite numerous preconceived ideas about God, Jesus' mission, and what was necessary to growth in faith toward God. Please call in and join us!

The Twelve Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth—Part II

    in Spirituality

We continue the second episode in our four-part series on the Cosmic Citizen on the 12 apostles of Jesus of Nazareth.  After exploring Andrew and Simon Peter, we next turn to James and John Zebedee—the "sons of thunder."  These Galilean fisherman and sons of a boat builder were a fascinating contrast to each other.  Who were these men?  What did they admire so much about Jesus of Nazareth that they followed someone they knew growing up? What attracted them to Jesus? Our intention is then to study the fifth apostle, Philip "the curious."  We might also see why Philip is the "methodical" apostle. Our hosts, Paula Thompson, Christilyn Biek-Larson and Andre Radatus explore the remarkable profiles of these next three men plumbed in Paper 139 of The Urantia Book.We think you'll enjoy this study and find curious, as most all students eventually do, how much more common these men were than holy and how wonderfully representative they were of the gamut of humanity. We will invite a variety of guests on this topic throughout the series to get their perspective on these apostles. How were these men challenges for Jesus and how did they manage to grow progressively, spiritually, and faithfully despite numerous preconceived ideas about God, Jesus' mission, and what was necessary to growth in faith toward God.Please call in and join us! 646-716-8158

The Twelve Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth—Part 1

    in Spirituality

Quiz time cosmic citizens! Have you ever wondered about the 12 apostles?  Who were these twelve men?  What they admired so much about Jesus of Nazareth that they continued to follow him even when the multitudes dropped away?  What attracted them to Jesus? The Cosmic Citizen undertakes a four-part series on these twelve men who obeyed the injunction command of Joshua ben Joseph when he said to each of them “Follow me.” Who was the formally best educated apostle? Who were the “sons of thunder?” Who was the curious but unimaginative apostle? Who was the philosophical apostle with a droll sense of humor? Who was the impetuous apostle? Who were the least intelligent but most faithful apostles? Who was the most analytical?
Our three hosts, Paula Thompson, Christilyn Biek-Larson and Andre Radatus explore the remarkable profiles of these twelve men plumbed in Paper 139 of The Urantia Book.We think you'll enjoy this study and find curious, as most all students eventually do, how much less holy these men were than human and how wonderfully representative they were of the gamet of humanity. We will invite a variety of guests on this topic throughout the series to get their perspective on these apostles. How were these men challenges for Jesus and how did they manage to grow progressively, spiritually, and faithfully despite numerous preconceived ideas about God, Jesus' mission, and what was necessary to growth in faith tward God.Please call in and join us!

Deepertruth: St. Vincent de Paul Active In Missionary Work

    in Religion

Jesus gave this example, “And he sat down and called the Twelve and he said to them, “If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” (Mark 9:35-37)

Acts Chapter 6 informs us that the Apostles established an order of deacons to help them with the care of the widows. The Church has always needed help to take care of the poor. We do become the Lord’s hands when we do his will, to take care of the needy.

Through the inspiration of St. Vincent de Paul, the founders of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul would come to the United States in 1845 beginning at the Basilica of St. Louis.

This Basilica, commonly called “The Old Cathedral”, was named in honor of St. Louis, King of France.

Father John Timon, a Vincentian priest from Pennsylvania, would establish a local chapter in Louisville Kentucky in 1854 and the Society has never looked back since.

The Society has a broad outreach that has helped untold millions of people all over the world.

They continue to help the poor regardless of background of those needing help.

According to their webpage, it states, “The St Vincent de Paul Society’s members and volunteers reach out to the most vulnerable in our community through our Conferences, Special Works and Vinnies shops. Members and volunteers assist people in need and do not discriminate against cultural, religious or political beliefs.”

Taming Your Outer Child-Susan Anderson with Scott Cluthe on P I Radio

    in Relationships

Scott Cluthe LIVE tonight with Susan Anderson on Taming Your Outer Child. Call in: 347-308-8478

Meet your Outer Child, the self-sabotaging nemesis of your personality – the part that breaks your diet and gets attracted to all the wrong people. Whereas your Inner child is all about feelings, your Outer child is all about behavior. Outer Child acts out your inner child’s feelings – especially your abandonment feelings – without giving you, the adult, a chance to intervene. When you feel hurt, angry, or insecure, Outer acts out these feelings in ways that sabotage your relationships. Outer works like a bungling undercover agent to protect (overprotect) you from potential hurt. Stealthy, quick, and misguided, it intercepts love before you ever know what happened.

Susan Anderson is a psychotherapist who has devoted the past 30 years of clinical experience and research to helping people overcome their “outer child” patterns of self-sabotage and resolve their underlying abandonment wounds. She is author of Journey from Abandonment to Healing; Black Swan: Twelve Lessons of Abandonment Recovery; and the WORKBOOK: Journey from Heartbreak to Connection. Her latest book, Taming Your Outer Child: Overcoming Self-Defeating Patterns can ordered now. Her books are translated into German, Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, and sold internationally.

    in Sports

Our Guest Call In Number : 1-(646)-716-6825

Modern Combat Masters Host Professor Darrell Sarjeant and his Co-Host, Kancho Dan Vena are proud to present Soke Billy Davis Ju Jutsu, Dei Bi Su Ryu Ju Jutsu.

Soke Billy Davis was born June 1937. At the age of nine, he began his studies of the martial arts after being beat up. He vowed, “I'm gonna do something about it!” Thus, he began training in the Art of Judo under Sensei Joe Carpenter. Judo was the only martial art taught around that time. Judo was taught as a gentle method, a non aggressive art. Approximately four months later, he met a gentleman who his father brought home to visit from the Merchant Marines, Sensei Batensour. Sensei Batensour began teaching Soke Davis the art of Ju Jutsu. After three years of training, at the age of twelve, he was promoted to Brown Belt. In 1953, at the age of sixteen, he was promoted to Black Belt. He entered the US Air Force, and due to his knowledge in Judo and Ju Jutsu, was stationed in Tokyo, Japan as an instructor of hand to hand combat. It was during this time that Soke Davis learned the Art of Taiho Jutsu, a very devastating expression of Ju Jutsu from the Tokyo Military Police. In 1959, Soke began teaching his combination of Judo, Ju Jutsu, and Taiho Jutsu. His first student is today, a living legend, Hanshi Rico Guy. Over the next twelve or so years, Soke trained in a variety of locations with several leading teachers. During this time, Soke stayed independent mastering the information he learned previously.

    Armchair Apologist

    in Paranormal

Kristina Rake is a deacon of the United States Old Catholic Church. She received her Master’s Degree in Theology from the prestigious Andover Newton Theological Seminary near Boston and has been teaching scripture, theology, and apologetics to adults for over 15 years. In her own search for the Christianity taught by the Apostles, she found the Catholic Church and converted in 1999 after attending seminary for one year. She became Director of Adult Formation for a Suburban Chicago Parish of over 15,000 people. Deacon was in charge of all adult programming at the church, from adult education series to retreats and community events.

One of Deacon’s responsibilities was the R.C.I.A. program in which adults seek to convert to Catholicism. Here, Deacon Rake worked with people from all religious backgrounds: from Jewish converts to atheists to evangelicals to Mainline Protestantism to no religious background at all. Her experiences teaching Catholic Theology to people from such diverse religious backgrounds grounded her firmly in Catholic Apologetics. Deacon Rake was asked by groups all over her diocese to speak on a variety of apologetics topics and, for 15 years, she taught theology, scripture, and apologetics in area parishes.

In 2014, Deacon Rake entered the United States Old Catholic Church under Archbishop James Long. She was ordained a Deacon on November 8th, 2014, and continues her studies and formation for the Old Catholic Priesthood. She lives in Chicago with her husband of 15 years, Mark, her two human children and her two furry Chihuahua boys
