MADLYN BIO: In 2010, I had my first song "Suddenly" placed in the indie film "Elena Undone," a movie I also played a supporting character in. I've also been blessed to have other artistic opportunities including writing songs for other artists such as European pop star Suzanna Lubrano, recording title tracks for films like the indie movie "Wheels," appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! singing background vocals for bands like Youngblood Hawke, and recording vocals for bands, most recently for latest Thirty Seconds to Mars album, "LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS." I've also been able to co-write with some pretty amazing peeps, including the legendary Billy Steinberg and Ken Hirsch. I love to perform live, and do so as often as possible at various venues throughout the US, both as a solo vocal/piano performer, as well as with my other awesome band members.
KATHRYN DEAN BIO: Armed with her unique perspective, musical integrity and soul bearing vocals, Kathryn Dean’s distinct sound has immense depth and intelligence both lyrically and musically. She delivers an honest performance that tells her unique stories in a way that inspires and impacts the human spirit like a true artist does.
Beyond her production commitments Kathryn has found the time to continue her passion for philanthropy where she has been involved with various charities. She has been participating in and leading events in her home town of San Diego since she was 13. Kathryn has a special place in her heart for children, troubled teens, animals and other groups in need.
Join us this week as we welcome country music singer songwriter, Eric Karge. Eric was voted Maryland’s “2014 Country Music Artist of the Year” during the first-annual Maryland Music Awards recently held at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Karge, who is from small town Preston, MD., was nominated in three categories including “Country Artist of the Year”, “Songwriter of the Year”, and “Breakout Artist of the Year”. Fans placed Karge in the top five for the three categories. In 2012, Karge released his debut EP titled “Small Town Night”. The EP features six from-the-heart original songs including “Small Town Night”, written about the town in which he grew up; “Irrigation from God”, inspired by the costly need for crop irrigation; “Hell Yeah”, a single inspired by meeting country artist Brantley Gilbert. Karge is currently working with Producer Dick Hodgin on a new military tribute album recording at Osceola Studio's in Raleigh, NC. The new album is scheduled to be released spring 2015. We will talk to Eric about his upcoming schedule, get a behind the scenes look at his music, feature his latest songs, and ask him to share his message for the troops. One of the most stylish and creative lead bassists of this wonderful time in C-jazz is the rising star Julian Vaughn whose fluid bass runs and compositions always seem to hit that special nerve in you that’s reserved for the smooth groove. Here on his latest released,Limitless, he continues to serve it up in abundance.
Bringing in a few luminaries from his Trippin N Rhythm/Cutmore Records family (saxmen Lebron and Darren Rahn, keyboardist Nicholas Cole, and flutist Althea Rene) along with saxmen Marcus Anderson and Elan Trotman, the bassist loads up with heavy grooves and romantic seductions.
The up-tempo but easy ridin’ lead track “Ride Along” firmly complements tracks like the energetic “Initiate” and calls a cool timeout for the fluid entrance of the more laid back romance-laden offering “All to Myself” and the mid-tempo R&Bish “Ecstacy.”
Vaughn’s wonderful tribute to the late great Wayman Tisdale shows how much of an impact the jovial and greatly talented Tisdale had on Vaughan.
We all love a great up-tempo jam, and Vaughn certainly offers his share here, but his skill with crafting slow- to mid-tempo tracks with tons of melody like the previously mentioned “All to Myself,” “I Will,” and “Say Yes” is equally as powerful and full of charm.
Here is a bassist who is doing it the right way…feeling the genre and the groove and how it moves him and his music to always strive for excellence. As the album title could imply, his potential is truly Limitless. – Ronald Jackson, The Smooth Jazz Ride.
Oya Thomas has spent her life delighting in the freeing, connective force of music. The beginning of her musical and spiritual journey can be traced back to Oya’s earliest experiences – joyful impressions that have added a genuine playfulness to her work’s mantra even as she matures as an artist. At the age of three, deeply inspired and encouraged by her father and personal hero Ezekiel and his distinctive voice, she began to sing tirelessly, writing poems and stories on the spot and setting them to music. Her ability to express herself fluidly through song strengthened the bond between the members of her tight-knit family as they gathered around the piano to revel in her enduring enthusiasm and colorful world perspectives.
In Oya’s words, “To feel is such a great experience in and of itself, and to be able to do it with something I have inside me, from the depth of my spirit is like a wonderful sharing that I cannot put into words. A smile, applause singing along, someone saying how good I made them feel makes everything worthwhile. These experiences are gratifying to me as an artist and performer and because I know I am helping someone else connect to their emotions in a positive way. I always said I wanted to use my talents to see God’s great earth, and so I am.”
With deep, immovable roots nourished by her father’s love and support as well as an innate fervor for growth as an artist and a human being, Oya continues to ignite her exceptional spark through her art.
Spirit of Oya is her debut solo album.
