We will be discussing the ethics of Big Game Hunting or commonly known as Trophy Hunting. In a world where animals, plants and habitats have slowly been destroyed why do some people consider this to be ethical ? How is Trophy Hunting considered a sport and not murder ? Plan on joining us and calling in for a really interesting discussion. Please consider a small donation to Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
As the world’s lion population continues to rapidly decline, LionAid.org estimates that there are 645-795 wild lions remaining in western and central Africa. In eastern and southern Africa, 14,450 wild lions remain - for a continental total of 15,244 wild lions! However, LionAid is making progress! Recently, LionAid received the news about a big decision made by the government in Zambia regarding a moratorium on big cat trophy hunting. From 2000 to 2010, Zambia exported 651 lion trophies, virtually all adult males. LionAid estimates the total lion population to be about 850 animals of both sexes and all ages. LionAid has cautioned for many years that this very high level of offtake was unsustainable. From 2000-2010 Zambia exported 645 adult male leopard hunting trophies from an unknown number of animals in the source population. A recent scientific publication noted that trophy hunting of lions was significantly affecting populations in national parks as well. LionAid.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of lions. Their mission is to create awareness about the huge decline of the lion population and work with government officials and other organizations to cease the legal hunting of these animals. Lions are a major trophy for hunters. Despite their well-documented decline, there is still a considerable trophy hunting effort. Since the last-published decline in lion numbers on the continent were made public in 2002-2004, over 4,400 lions have been exported as trophies. As such, trophies are largely male lions. The effect of this commercial activity has greatly impacted both overall lion numbers and the ability for remaining lions to reproduce. Trophy hunting must cease. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, tune in as host, June Stoyer talks to the founders of LionAid.org, Dr. Pieter Kat and Christine Macsween.
The most valuable person of Super Bowl 50 may have been Wade Phillips. The Denver Broncos entered Super Bowl 50 with the number ranked unit in the NFL. The Carolina Panthers had scored 80 points in their two playoff games and had the leagues MVP running the offense. Phillips devised an aggressive game plan the pressured Newton and forced four Panther turnovers. Two Newton fumbles led to both Bronco touchdowns.
Peyton Manning came out of the gates looking like the Manning of old, leading the Broncos to an opening drive field goal. Manning completed four of six passes for 47 yards on the 10 play drive. After trading punts, the Panthers started their second drive at their own 15. On thrid down Von Miller broke the edge and instead of crushing Newton he stripped the ball. The ball was recovered in the end zone by Malik Jackson and the Broncos took a 10-0 lead. Prior to the touchdown, Newton found Jerricho Cotchery over the middle but the play was ruled incomplete after replay upheld the call.
Early in the second quarter James Stewart vaulted into the end zone from one yard out that made the score 10-7. Jordan Norwood broke a Super Bowl record with a 61-yard punt return that gave the Broncos a first down at the Carolina 14-yard line. The Panthers defense stood tall and held the Broncos to a field goal, which made the score 13-7.
Both teams added a field goal in the second half. With 4:51 remaining and the score 16-10, the Panthers took over on their own 24-yard line. Once again, Von Miller broke the edge and got his hand on the ball as Newton was cocked back and ready to throw. T.J. Ward recoverd the fumble and set the Broncos up at the Panthers 4-yard line. Josh Norman was called for holding on an incomplete third-down pass that gave the Broncos a first down at the 2-yard line. C.J Anderson bullied his way to the goal line and gave the Broncos a 22-10 lead. The ensuing two-point conversion was good.
Virginia City was a boomtown with the 1859 discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver deposit discovery in the United States, and numerous mines were opened. At the city's peak of population in the mid-1870s, it had an estimated 25,000 residents. The mines' output declined after 1878, and the city declined.
However, many in the now historic town say, some of the residents have never left. And as this ghost town has become more of a tourist attraction, one of the attractions the town now offers is ghost tours. Paranormal investigators from all over the world come to the Nevada playground to find who's still hanging out in the saloon or sleeping in the old hotel.
Debbie Bender is part of the team that runs the Virginia City Ghost Tours. The stories and experiences she has from this old mining community are eerie, intriguing and mystifying all at once. You can find them at www.virginiacityghosttours.com. Debi will explain the history of the town from then, until now. We'll talk about who's still wandering around. And how ghost hunting has brought new 'life' to an aged community.
Brett Favre leads the NFL Hall of Fame class for 2016. Favre was voted in on the first ballot, and becomes the 24th Green Bay Packer to be selected. The Chicago Bears lead all teams with 27 players enshrined. The class of 2016 will enshrine eight people that includes one owner, one coach, two quarterbacks (including Favre), a wide receiver, two offensive lineman, and one defensive player.
The late Ken Stabler joins Favre at the quarterback position. Stabler known as the "Snake" passed away last July from cancer. He led the Oakland Raiders to the Lombardi Trophy in 1977. Owner Edward DeBartolo Jr will also be enshrined for his contributions to the NFL. Tony Dungy became the first African-American to win a Super Bowl. Marvin Harrison still holds the single season reception record of 143 and was a member of Dungy's Super Bowl winning team. Orlando Pace was a giant among men on the offensive line and is joined by the late Dick Stanfel who played for the Detroit Lions. With Stanfel being elected to the Hall of Fame, Packer fans may be shaking their head wondering why the great Jerry Kramer still has not received his validation. Finally, the lone defensive player elected was Kevin Greene. Greene recorded 160 sacks while playing for four teams. He started his career in 1985 with the Los Angeles Rams and ended his 15 year career in Carolina.
Of all the cast members in “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” Cuba Gooding, Jr. may have the toughest challenge: He has to embody someone everyone has an opinion on. But guilty or innocent, Gooding says he’ll never reveal his true feelings about the case — or the former Heisman trophy winner, who’s now in prison on an unrelated charge. It's an ALL-STAR cast let me tell you from John Travolta to Bruce Greenwood to David Schwimmer to Malcolm Jamal Warner plus so many others.
This case is definetly a "where were you when that white Bronco was driving slowly down the highway?". It was just a few years after the L.A. Riots and which I feel affected why the case was aquitted.
