Conversations with Deli - Educating You On What Matters

    in Education

Join me as I welcome authors of Footsteps of a Forgotten Soldier:  The Life and Times of David Carll.  Francis S. Carl and Denice Evans Sheppard are the descendants of David Carll, and they will share their latest book about David Carll’s fascinating and powerful American story.  Tune in to take a remarkable journey, in the footsteps of a forgotten soldier.

At a time in American history when slavery was still practiced in many Southern states during the Civil War, thousands of free hard working black men from the state of New York answered the call of duty once a colored regiment had been authorized in the state of New York.  One such young man who answered the call was David Carll, from the town of Oyster Bay, New York. At the age of eighteen he would set out on a Journey that would take him from the small village where he was born and raised into the deep south behind Confederate enemy lines in South Carolina while assigned to the 26th United States Colored Troop Regiment. One hundred and fifty years after the Civil War ended, the story of this one soldier will be told by his descendants. Records compiled from the National Archives in Washington DC, as well as records from many other reliable sources including oral history from David Carll's grandchildren makes this story possible.  What was uncovered in the research was a remarkable story that seemed to rise up from the very soil David Carll stood on.  For more information about David Carll visit www.davidcarll.com

power of perception writers with RC and JP Carter

    in Spirituality

RC & JP Carter (Chris & Joan to their friends) have been married for almost forty years. They have five daughters, one son and thirteen grandchildren. Chris has been a full time air traffic controller for the last 27 years. Both Chris and Joan were also actively involved in Christian ministry for 20 years before retiring. They served as both associate pastors and pastors of their own church. They ministered deliverance to many people during that time. Even now during their paranormal investigations, they are often called upon to cleanse and anoint homes and sometimes the people living there.

Joan first saw apparitions at an early age growing up in Massachusetts. She was always told that ghosts were not real, which didn’t stop the spirits from making themselves known. Chris was exposed to the paranormal with a UFO experience when he was young in Illinois. Now they both enjoy doing paranormal investigations in residential and public buildings when called upon.

During their ministry they wrote many plays and skits. They took a troop of performers throughout southern California performing in churches and dinner theaters. Since they had a large family many of their vacations were full of adventure and misadventure. When they would return home from a vacation they would regale people with stories of their travels. People constantly told them “you should write a book”. Now many years later they decided to do just that.

Their first three novels, The O’Rourke Series, are mysteries. These books have both strong male and female characters. In this series of books old school detectives solve hi-tech crime. The O’Rourke team are diligent, loyal, fearless, honest and hard-working people. They are the stuff America is made of.

Book four of the O’Rourke Series is currently on the drawing board. .

The Vehicle of Victory with Todd Tomasella and Judge Travis Bryan III

    in Christianity

Brother Travis Bryan III notes: "Yes, the cross is paradoxically and counter-intuitively the only vehicle of victory but it appears to the natural eye to be a vehicle of defeat.  When we "take up the cross daily" (Luke 9:23-24), we take up the vehicle of victory.  The only authentic place of rulership and transcendence is nailed to the tree.  We "reign from the tree" as Ps 96:10a used to read before a copier of the received text decided to delete "from the tree" because it seemed so absurd to him that a ruler could rule from such a throne as the tree of crucifixion.

The flesh sees the cross as failure, weakness, and a foolish surrender to defeat.  The flesh says it is nuts to "present your bodies as a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1)."  Only the eye of the Spirit has the light to see the cross as the vehicle of victory.  Example, the world says, "How can turning the other cheek, absorbing the enemy's blows and "resist not evil" be the way to victory over evil?"  Matt 5:38-48.  How can loving enemies eventually turn them into our friends?  How can our enemies be our ushers who take us deeper down into Christ?

The flesh says in battle, "We need a troop surge to defeat evil not a troop reduction.  Troop reduction is crazy."  See troop reduction by Gideon in Judges 6 and 7.

God tramples on His enemies, not with retaliatory violence, but by letting them in love trample on Him.  Is 63:1-6.  Thus the Vehicle of Victory co-opts Satan in bringing him to his defeat and our victory.  This is foolishness to the natural mind.  1 Cor 1:17 to end of chapter 2."
